“Beneath the Surface: Birthing Beauty”
Opening Reception: Friday, June 7, 6 to 9 p.m.; On display thru June 30
“Beneath the Surface” is a unique exhibition featuring Rebecca Darlington. Darlington
takes a peek through women to reveal the ideal representation of their lives
that they silently carry with them and hope to obtain. Her “Birthing Beauty” series
of clear cast resin bodices illustrates the theme of seeing beneath the surface of a
working woman to reveal the hidden wars of nurturing versus female sexuality
versus professional choices. She examines the long term impact the little choices in
this act of balancing make on our families and culture. Wardy presents his colorful
abstract works in gouache on paper and paintings in acrylic. His pieces create art
out of pure color, line, gesture, material and surface. Depth is created by the layers
upon layers of surfaces, texture and sheer brillance of color. The exhibition is on
view from June 7th through June 30th, with an artists reception on Friday, June
7th, from 6 to 9 PM. Gallery 66 NY is located at 66 Main Street, Cold Spring, NY.
“Symmetry and Beauty”
Friday, June 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
“Symmetry and Beauty” by Edward Yashin, an artist that is also an architect and
that profession informs his work. A master of technique when representing buildings,
he also takes liberties to enhance their lines with the illusion of scaffolding
surrounding their perimeters, punctuating their symmetry and beauty. Light and
shade create dramatic effects and communicate the feel and sense of the city the
building is placed within. Mysterious figures appear in windows and doorways,
dressed for a night of intrigue or whatever meaning the viewer transfers onto their
personage. A very rare opportunity to see the work of an artist who lives and works
in the Ukraine. The exhibition is on view from June 7th through June 30th, with
an artists reception on Friday, June 7th, from 6 to 9 p.m. Gallery 66 NY is located
at 66 Main Street, Cold Spring, NY. For more information, call 845-809-5838 or go
to www.gallery66ny.com.
Color and Line in Motion: Paintings and Sculpture
Opening Reception Friday, June 7th, 6 to 9 p.m. On display thru June 30
On exhibition are Frederick Wardy’s abstract expressionist gouache on paper
and acrylic on canvas works. These consist of gestural and painterly strokes and
thinner gestural lines. The works radiate strong color, often with the substantial use
of primaries. Sometimes the colors interact harmoniously; sometimes there is disharmony.
The exhibition is on view from June 7th through June 30th, with an artists
reception on Friday, June 7th. Gallery 66 NY is located at 66 Main Street, Cold
Spring, NY. For information, call 845-809-5838 or go to www.gallery66ny.com.
‘Fantastical Beasts’
Opening Reception: Friday, August 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
“Fantastical Beasts” is a unique exhibition of plaster sculpted bas relief imaginary
beasts by Suzanne Langle. Her work involves seeing and remembering the movements,
gestures and objects that intrigue her, translating them into drawing, sculpture
and painting. When Langle starts a piece she really don’t know where it’s going
to take her, but as it continues it becomes a conversation. The particular way in
which this process takes over remains a mystery. Inspiration comes from many diverse
sources: the curve of a dog’s ear, the microscopic made visible, sharp abstract
shapes and winged beasts; manifesting into a vision with her work. The exhibition is
on view from August 2nd through September 2nd. Gallery 66 NY, 66 Main St., Cold
Spring, NY. For information, call 845-809-5838 or go to www.gallery66ny.com.
