Shaping the Future Lecture
Paul Jackson took up his post as
ITV’s Director of Entertainment
and Comedy in February 2006
after working as Granada’s Chief
Executive Officer in America.
Before that, Paul worked in
Australia as Chief Executive Officer
of Granada Productions and spent
a period back in the UK as Director
of International Production and
Entertainment.
He has a distinguished record as
a programme producer. His hits
include the BBC’s cult sci-fi sit-com
Red Dwarf, 3 Of A Kind (BAFTA &
MONTREUX ROSE WINNER), The
Young Ones (BAFTA WINNER), Girls
on Top for Central, Don’t Miss Wax
and Saturday Live for Channel 4.
He also co-produced an Oscarwinning
success in 1988 with
the comedy live action short

comedian Steven Wright and
Rowan Atkinson.
Whilst he was CEO of Granada
America, the company produced
some highly successful shows.
Recent episodes of Hell’s Kitchen
on Fox and Hit Me Baby One More
Time on NBC were the number
one shows of the week in the 18-
49 demos. Paul has executiveproduced
both series.
Since Paul joined ITV Network in
2006 there have been several
notable successes in the
Entertainment and Comedy fields,
most obviously Britain’s Got
Talent and the BAFTA nominated
Benidorm which is ITV’s first
successful returning comedy
series for five years.
From 1994 to 1996 Jackson was
Chairman of the Royal Television
Society. He was Chairman of Comic
Relief from its launch until 1999
and was also Chairman of its
parent, Charity Projects. He is
currently Chairman of TimeBank,
a major UK charity dedicated to
increasing the effectiveness of
volunteering within the UK. He is
a Fellow of the Institute of
Directors and a Fellow of the Royal
Television Society. He is on the
Executive Committee of the United
States Comedy Arts Festival.
In 2004 he was awarded an
Honorary Doctorate by his old
University in Exeter, where he is
also a Visiting Professor in the
School of English. He broadcasts
regularly on Radio Four with his
series In Conversation With, and
he now fronts Britain In A Box.
