ItalIan carmaker alfa Romeo
turns 100 this year, and to celebrate
the firm is set to launch a new version
of a classic model, the Giulietta.
The new model will be officially
unveiled at the Geneva Car Show next
month, and based on early photos it
appears to adhere to the Alfa tradition
of producing beautiful sports cars.
The Giulietta name rekindles
memories of Alfa’s classic 1950s
coupe; however it was only decided
upon following complaints that the
original name, Milano, was unsuitable

following Alfa’s decision to shut its
Milan factory.
Despite the historic branding,
Alfa has come up with entirely new
architecture for the revamped Giulietta
that is designed to enhance road hold
and agility while still providing total
comfort and safety.
The new model will set you back
just over £15,000, so in terms of size
and price it will compete with the VW
Golf and the Audi A3, and Alfa has
packed it with goodies to give it a head
start over its rivals.

for the Giulietta in the spring, and
is hoping it will make for a bumper
centenary year.
“It’s a great looking car and we’re
hoping it’s going to sell really well,”
said a spokesman.
Initially there will be four turbocharged
engines to choose from,
including a 1.4 litre MultiAir petrol
engine that gives you 170 HP. All
four options are fitted with a standard
‘start&stop’ system to reduce
consumption and emissions.
Later in the year Alfa will introduce
a 1750 Tbi Quadrifoglio Verde hot
hatch with 235 BHP, just to give
those of you still erring on the side of
German efficiency something extra
to think about.
