FUTURE BOOK PROJECTS:
The Sweeter the Apple, the Darker the Core: An
examination of the influence of Cider in the West Country, 1801 – Present.
o This work will explore the influence
of Cider in the West Country from a historical and
anthropological vantage point. Cider has throughout the history of the West Country been an
influential companion to the peoples that inhabit that region of the UK: from festivals, to
different techniques over brewing, to county competitions and fetes, to revolts over changes
in recipes, to politics and elections and serious community issues such and youth drinking and
temperance. My work will mainly examine the darker history and seedy underbelly of Cider
consumption and its effects on local and national politics, and as a tool of corruption and
decadence in Modern Britain.
