You Are What You Eat
Fauquier Health is not just about healing you when you’re sick. We are about keeping you healthy, too and
a big part of staying healthy is eating right. Through the Bistro on the Hill, Fauquier Health has created several
programs that improve our community’s access to healthy meals.
• The Senior Supper Club meets twice a week in the Bistro. Anyone 55 or older can enjoy a delicious, healthy
meal for only $4.50, while enjoying the company of their friends and neighbors. Local churches and senior
centers sponsor trips to the Bistro; some nights, more than 100 senior citizens join us for supper. Zach Erickson,
director of Nutrition Services, says, “It’s a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and some new ones at our
Supper Club. Our Supper Club guests tell us they come as much for the socialization as for the delicious food.
The best part for me is always hearing the buzz of positive comments they make to each other on the way out.
All of my staff in the Bistro find the senior meals a rewarding and fun experience. We can’t wait to see them again!”
• A partnership with the Town of Warrenton has brought its Farmers Market to Hospital Hill. Farmers Market
vendors, selling just-picked, locally grown fruits and vegetables, fresh baked bread, and other local items, set
up in the Bistro parking lot every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Bistro purchases some of its produce
from these and other local farmers, making sure that the meals it provides to patients and their families are as
fresh and healthful as possible.
• The Culinary Healing Garden was planted in the fall of 2011. The Bistro will be using the organically grown
vegetables and herbs in Bistro menus. The garden was planned, planted and maintained by volunteer gardeners
from the community. Funds for the construction of the four-bed garden were donated.
Other Community Partnerships
Fauquier Health appreciates the opportunity to partner
with local organizations to further the health of our community.
Some of these joint projects include:
• Blood drives
• Bone marrow donor drive
• Classes and lectures
• Family Autism Workshop
• Family Wellness Fair
• Fauquier Free Clinic
