Please attach a ‘headshot’ photo and an action photo of yourself for<br />

potential use on the <strong>ACSP</strong> website to this application.<br />

Experience and Skills: Please use as much space as necessary to fully<br />

answer these questions. (Note: We know that not everyone will have<br />

experience in all of these areas, we are looking for a blend of talent on<br />

the expedition –climbers, scientists, and people who want to help with<br />

conservation in the Cordillera Blanca).<br />

Mountaineering Experience: Please include mountain/route name,<br />

location, highest elevation, and year - and please be most detailed about<br />

your climbing over the past few years. Include (in order of importance)<br />

expedition mountaineering, alpine ice, ski mountaineering, alpine snow,<br />

multi-pitch ice, and multi-pitch rock climbing.


Please indicate if you have advanced skills with photography, web design,<br />

first aid, rescue, videography, or use of a GPS.<br />

Science Experience: Please provide a description of your environmental<br />

science or engineering experience.<br />

Schedule (Note: Participants are expected to arrive early in Huaraz to<br />

begin acclimatization and it is preferred that participants climb in at least<br />

two of the valleys to maximize the experience):<br />

Open – All Participants<br />

Trip 1: Ishinca Valley: June 9 – June 19<br />

Trip 2: Quilcayhuanca to Cojup Valley: June 22 – July 1<br />

Trip 3: Llanganuco Valley: July 5 – July 14<br />

Trip 4: Ishinca Valley: July 17 – July 27<br />

Trip 5: Llanganuco Valley: July 29 – August 5<br />

Experienced – Acclimatized and Experienced Mountaineers only (NOTE:<br />

These trips will only occur if a sufficient number of qualified climbers are<br />

available. They are only available to well qualified applicants and final<br />

decisions for participation will be made in <strong>Peru</strong> by the expedition leader

Trip 9: Huantsan Traverse (6395 m): July 17-26<br />

Trip 10: Huascaran Norte – ski (6664 m): July 29-Aug 4<br />

Trip 11: Chinchey Traverse (6309 m): Aug 7 -17<br />

Costs:<br />

Each 10-day Trip (see dates above) with potentially two or more peaks<br />

available will cost $975. We recommend that people participate in at<br />

least two consecutive Trips (i.e. 3 weeks) ($1950). Participant costs are<br />

capped at ($2900) for three or more Trips. If time is available, we<br />

encourage people to consider staying for the entire 9-week expedition.<br />

(Note: Donations are being sought for student research scholarships. If<br />

you are a student who has a specific research project for the expedition,<br />

please contact us at mt.clim8@gmail.com for more information.<br />

Scholarships are only available to those who have paid the deposit and<br />

are committed to the expedition).<br />

Payment timing: A deposit of $350 is due with each application and is<br />

only refundable if you are not chosen for the expedition. The first half of<br />

the payment is due April 15. The remainder of the costs are due by May<br />

15. <strong>Expedition</strong> Costs are potentially tax-deductible and you will receive a<br />

receipt of donation to the <strong>American</strong> <strong>Alpine</strong> <strong>Club</strong> (please consult your tax<br />

professional for tax advice).<br />

Covered Costs: (Note: the expedition begins in Huaraz, <strong>Peru</strong> and<br />

participants are required to get to Huaraz on their own. However, our<br />

expedition logistics firm – La Cima <strong>Expedition</strong>s (cafeandino@hotmail.com)<br />

can provide assistance with booking hotels in Lima, buses to Huaraz etc.<br />

at little cost depending on assistance required.)<br />
