'He condition of man after
the fall of Adamy is fuch,
that he cannot turn and prepare
himielt by his own natural
ftrength and good works to
faith., and calling upon God ;
V, hertTnre we have no power
to do good work? pleafanc and
acceptable to God, wirhout the
grace of God by Chrift pre-
venting us, that we may have a
good will, and working with
us when we have that goJd
will.
XI. Ofthejuftification of Man.
^^[/'E are accounted righteous
before God, only for the
Merit cf our Lord and Saviour
jefus Chrift by Faich, and not
for o«r own Works or Deferv-
ings. Wherefore, that we are
jijftified by Faith only, is a mofi:
wholfome^ Doctrine, and very
full of comfort, as more largely
is expríTed in the Homily of
Juftification.

ALbeic that good Works,
^*" which are the fruits of Faith,
and fofiow after Juftification,
cannot put away our lin?, and
endure the feverity of Gods
Judgment; yet arc they plea-
fing and acceptable to God in
Chrift, and do ipring out ne-
ceflarily of a true and lively
Faith J infomuch that by
them a lively Faith may be
as evidently known, as a tree
difcerned by the fruit.
