From <strong>the</strong> President<br />

Well <strong>the</strong> AGM and prize giving has come and g<strong>on</strong>e for<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r year with <strong>the</strong> result that we have two new committee<br />

members (Gord<strong>on</strong> McArthur and Jas<strong>on</strong> Clough), a new<br />

Secretary (Andrew Farrow), a new Treasurer (Paul Clegg)<br />

and a new webmaster and <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hot</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g> Editor (Sim<strong>on</strong> Young).<br />

As I said at <strong>the</strong> AGM we owe a huge vote <strong>of</strong> thanks to Brian<br />

Harmer and Bill Gilbert for <strong>the</strong>ir efforts as<br />

Secretary/Web/<str<strong>on</strong>g>Hot</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g> and Treasurer respectively over <strong>the</strong><br />

last few years. In welcoming Gord<strong>on</strong> and Jas<strong>on</strong> it is pleasing<br />

to note that we had more nominees for <strong>the</strong> committee<br />

positi<strong>on</strong>s than spaces available – a fairly rare occurrence in<br />

any club. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> AGM also saw <strong>the</strong> adopti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> a small ($15)<br />

increase in Club Fees for <strong>the</strong> first time in many years. Most<br />

<strong>of</strong> this increase simply reflects two increases in annual fees<br />

imposed by <strong>the</strong> NZMAA in <strong>the</strong> last few years. Also adopted<br />

at <strong>the</strong> AGM were two minor amendments to <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong><br />

which recognise <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> electr<strong>on</strong>ic media and mail <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> club affairs.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> new committee met for <strong>the</strong> first time <strong>on</strong> Weds 11<br />

Apr and quickly swung into <strong>the</strong> tasks associated with<br />

managing <strong>the</strong> club for <strong>the</strong> year ahead. We have agreed an<br />

interesting and varied Club Night programme through until<br />

next January. First cab <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> rank will be Paul Clegg’s<br />

Quiz Night <strong>on</strong> Weds 26 Apr (ANZAC Day). Attendees will<br />

be divided into teams and <strong>the</strong> questi<strong>on</strong>s will broadly relate to<br />

aeromodelling so this should be a fun and informative night.<br />

Sim<strong>on</strong> will publish <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Club Night programme <strong>on</strong><br />

our web site calendar in due course.

With our new building and deck now in place, <strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> more pressing tasks was to identify a practical process for<br />

providing member access to <strong>the</strong> new building while<br />

maintaining an adequate level <strong>of</strong> security. We have agreed a<br />

process that we believe should work well as l<strong>on</strong>g as<br />

individual members c<strong>on</strong>tinue to take resp<strong>on</strong>sibility for<br />

ensuring that <strong>the</strong> Club assets are locked up at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> each<br />

flying day. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> process will be written up as a checklist and<br />

permanently attached to <strong>the</strong> inside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mower shed door.<br />

Suffice to say that acti<strong>on</strong> items will involve <strong>the</strong> electric<br />

fence, <strong>the</strong> club house, <strong>the</strong> mower shed, <strong>the</strong> flying strip gate<br />

and <strong>the</strong> range key. I would urge that you familiarise yourself<br />

with <strong>the</strong> checklist and ensure that if you are <strong>the</strong> last <strong>on</strong>e to<br />

leave <strong>the</strong> field <strong>on</strong> any given day that you ensure all <strong>the</strong><br />

acti<strong>on</strong>s have been completed. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> tasks are simple and far<br />

from <strong>on</strong>erous but if members fail to complete <strong>the</strong>m we will<br />

have no choice but to apply a far more restrictive regime.<br />

You should also note that we plan to change <strong>the</strong><br />

combinati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> lock <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> mower shed in <strong>the</strong> near<br />

future. If you need to know <strong>the</strong> new combinati<strong>on</strong> please ask<br />

a committee member.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Trentham flying rules have been updated to<br />

reflect <strong>the</strong> introducti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> spread spectrum and syn<strong>the</strong>sizer<br />

Transmitter technology. In essence, if you purchase a spread<br />

spectrum TX you must have a 2.4gHz flag (available from<br />

Leo) permanently affixed to your TX. You must also have a<br />

2.4gHz Peg from <strong>the</strong> peg board <strong>on</strong> your TX when it is in<br />

use. For those with syn<strong>the</strong>sizer modules in <strong>the</strong>ir TX, you<br />

will need a flag for each frequency that you plan to use and<br />

ensure that <strong>the</strong> correct flag is attached to your TX whenever<br />

you change <strong>the</strong> frequency. Standard rules apply for<br />

displaying <strong>the</strong> correct frequency Peg when <strong>the</strong> TX is in use.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se amendments to <strong>the</strong> rules are entirely in accordance<br />

with NZMAA guide<strong>line</strong>s and have been put in place to<br />

reduce <strong>the</strong> risk <strong>of</strong> shoot downs. Please remember that if you<br />

do shoot some<strong>on</strong>e down through incorrect applicati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

rules that it will be your resp<strong>on</strong>sibility to replace <strong>the</strong> affected<br />

model.<br />

Our efforts to replace <strong>the</strong> mower c<strong>on</strong>tinue and<br />

although we were unsuccessful with our first grant request to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Upper Hutt trust, we have an applicati<strong>on</strong> in with ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Trust. We will let you know when we get fur<strong>the</strong>r news.<br />

While <strong>the</strong> Saturday and Sunday <strong>of</strong> Easter were<br />

affected by shooting some great flying was enjoyed by those<br />

who turned up <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> Friday and M<strong>on</strong>day. To have great<br />

wea<strong>the</strong>r <strong>on</strong> all four days <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter break was somewhat<br />

unusual. Here’s hoping that <strong>the</strong> good wea<strong>the</strong>r c<strong>on</strong>tinues.

CLUB CAPTAINS<br />

COMMENTS<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r AGM has come and g<strong>on</strong>e and a<br />

new committee is at <strong>the</strong> helm. It is new in<br />

<strong>the</strong> sense that some existing <strong>of</strong>fice holders<br />

have moved <strong>on</strong> to o<strong>the</strong>r jobs and that a<br />

couple <strong>of</strong> old <strong>on</strong>es have retired from<br />

serving your interests. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> new HA editor<br />

(Sim<strong>on</strong> Young) asked me to write a few<br />

words for <strong>the</strong> HA and I must admit that I<br />

was sorely tempted to do literally that. On<br />

reflecti<strong>on</strong> I started w<strong>on</strong>dering why it was<br />

that <strong>the</strong> club <strong>magazine</strong> seemed to be largely<br />

composed <strong>of</strong> regular articles from<br />

committee members, with <strong>the</strong> notable<br />

excepti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> G2’s helicopter roundup.<br />

I recall a number <strong>of</strong> universal reas<strong>on</strong>s<br />

(excuses) <strong>of</strong>fered by people when asked to<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tribute to any cause or communal<br />

activity, and <strong>the</strong>se are:<br />

I pay for <strong>the</strong> field and facilities why I<br />

should have to c<strong>on</strong>tribute our (insert:

time, m<strong>on</strong>ey, effort, goodwill etc)<br />

I am simply too busy<br />

I am tired from working l<strong>on</strong>g hours<br />

My o<strong>the</strong>r commitments w<strong>on</strong>’t allow<br />

me to c<strong>on</strong>tribute<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se can be loosely translated as:<br />

I am a selfish, tight-ass user<br />

I think my time is worth more than<br />

any<strong>on</strong>e else’s<br />

I am lazy<br />

I am unable prioritize my time to<br />

include <strong>the</strong> greater good <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

WMAC members<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are many variati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me and<br />

I have heard most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m over <strong>the</strong> years.<br />

This willingness (or lack <strong>of</strong> willingness) to<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tribute seems to pervade most clubs and<br />

organizati<strong>on</strong>s and maybe reflects <strong>the</strong> stage<br />

<strong>of</strong> moral development reached by<br />

individuals comprising <strong>the</strong> organizati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

That WMAC members lack a social<br />

c<strong>on</strong>science is a singularly unpalatable<br />

noti<strong>on</strong> as I like to believe that most people<br />

are inherently good-natured and see fit to<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tribute, as <strong>the</strong>y are able; and in various<br />

ways.<br />

I think <strong>the</strong> real questi<strong>on</strong> I have been asking<br />

myself is “Why, or if, we need a<br />

publicati<strong>on</strong> such as <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hot</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g> when we have a<br />

web-site that can be c<strong>on</strong>tinuously updated?<br />

” I think this matter was raised at a recent<br />

committee meeting and is worthy <strong>of</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

thought; whe<strong>the</strong>r a legal requirement exists<br />

for a regular publicati<strong>on</strong> under <strong>the</strong><br />

Companies Act is ano<strong>the</strong>r matter entirely.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se are my own thoughts and you may<br />

disagree, as is your right, BUT <strong>the</strong> facilities<br />

at <strong>the</strong> flying site, <strong>the</strong> HA and <strong>the</strong> members<br />

email group c<strong>on</strong>tribute to our group<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> and enable us to enjoy our<br />

hobby. Has <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hot</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g> outlived its<br />

usefulness as a communicati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>duit and<br />

is it simply time to superannuate it freeing<br />

every<strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time taken to c<strong>on</strong>tribute?<br />

(or feelings <strong>of</strong> guilt if you d<strong>on</strong>’t). Let <strong>the</strong><br />

Editor know what you think as I am sure he

would like to get your “copy”.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Club flying rules have recently been updated to more cover <strong>the</strong><br />

use <strong>of</strong> new Radio technologies. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>y are as follows.<br />

Flying Site Rules: Sedd<strong>on</strong><br />

Range, Trentham<br />

This is WMAC’s premier site, catering for all outdoor model<br />

classes except slope soaring. It is held by arrangement with <strong>the</strong><br />

New Zealand Army. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Army currently uses it <strong>on</strong>ly for occasi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

demoliti<strong>on</strong> exercises, but <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Rifle Associati<strong>on</strong> and<br />

Wellingt<strong>on</strong> Rifle Associati<strong>on</strong> use it regularly for weekend shooting.<br />

C<strong>on</strong>sequently, several <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules and operating procedures that<br />

follow have been written to meet <strong>the</strong>se o<strong>the</strong>r users' specific safety<br />

and security c<strong>on</strong>cerns. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se are printed in bold type. Failure to<br />

observe <strong>the</strong>m to <strong>the</strong> letter could lead, am<strong>on</strong>g o<strong>the</strong>r things, to our no<br />

l<strong>on</strong>ger having access to Sedd<strong>on</strong> Range. At <strong>the</strong> very least, any such<br />

failure will be treated as a breach <strong>of</strong> Club discip<strong>line</strong> and dealt with<br />

accordingly.<br />

1. GENERAL:<br />

1.1 No modeller or group <strong>of</strong> modellers may use <strong>the</strong> Range<br />

without having first collected <strong>the</strong> key to <strong>the</strong> gate from <strong>the</strong><br />

charge.<br />

1.5 <strong>Model</strong>lers shall not retrieve a downed model from <strong>the</strong><br />

ground within an active shooting template without <strong>the</strong> express<br />

permissi<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer in charge.<br />

1.6 <strong>Model</strong>lers shall not enter Rimutaka Pris<strong>on</strong> ground to<br />

retrieve a downed model.<br />

1.7 No model shall be flown over an active firing <strong>line</strong>.<br />

at all times when <strong>the</strong>re are livestock <strong>on</strong> it.<br />

1.9 Vehicles must not be driven or parked <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> rifle range<br />

mounds. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>y must be parked <strong>on</strong>ly in <strong>the</strong> areas designated. (<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se<br />

may vary from time to time, depending <strong>on</strong> flying activities and<br />

wea<strong>the</strong>r/ground c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s.)<br />

1.10 Only financial members <strong>of</strong> WMAC, <strong>the</strong>ir guests, and financial<br />

members <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

clubs affiliated to <strong>the</strong> New Zealand <strong>Model</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g>craft Associati<strong>on</strong><br />

(NZMAA) may fly at <strong>the</strong> Trentham site. Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> Club membership<br />

must be produced, when requested by Army or Nati<strong>on</strong>al Rifle Club<br />

pers<strong>on</strong>nel, or by ano<strong>the</strong>r WMAC member. Visiting<br />

fliers wishing to fly unsupervised must produce a Wings badge or<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency certificate <strong>on</strong> request.

1.11 All new fliers are expected to become financial members <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> WMAC after no more than three visits flying at <strong>the</strong> site.<br />

1.12 All fliers, regardless <strong>of</strong> flying discip<strong>line</strong>, must be prepared to<br />

accept directi<strong>on</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Club Captain or any Committee Member<br />

when it is felt that some acti<strong>on</strong> is<br />

required for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> majority. Any flier aggrieved by such<br />

acti<strong>on</strong> should make a written submissi<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> Committee within 7<br />

days.<br />

1.13 When different model classes cannot be operated c<strong>on</strong>currently<br />

with safety, <strong>the</strong> fliers c<strong>on</strong>cerned shall negotiate agreed periods<br />

during which each flying activity will have exclusive use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

relevant flying area(s).<br />

1.14 No engines shall be started before 9.00am. Engines 0.10 cu in<br />

(a) Take <strong>of</strong>f and landing shall be in <strong>on</strong>ly <strong>on</strong>e directi<strong>on</strong>. That<br />

directi<strong>on</strong> shall be<br />

agreed am<strong>on</strong>gst <strong>the</strong> fliers at <strong>the</strong> site and may need to be varied<br />

from time to<br />

time if <strong>the</strong> wind directi<strong>on</strong> changes.<br />

(b) Before moving out to <strong>the</strong> strip fliers must carefully check to<br />

ensure that no<br />

models are approaching.<br />

(c) All fliers shall stand in <strong>the</strong> designated pilots' areas, adjacent to<br />

<strong>the</strong> mown<br />

area(s) being hit by a model, should <strong>the</strong>re be a loss <strong>of</strong> c<strong>on</strong>trol at<br />

launch.

(c) R/C Glider, R/C Vintage and R/C Electric flying shall avoid<br />

<strong>the</strong> area<br />

designated in 2.4 (b) when helicopter hovering exercises are taking<br />

place. (To<br />

maintain adequate separati<strong>on</strong>, this may mean moving both <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

launching and<br />

landing areas fur<strong>the</strong>r towards <strong>the</strong> golf course.)<br />

2.4 R/C Helicopters:<br />

(a) No helicopter may be flown without an observer, unless <strong>the</strong><br />

take place<br />

c<strong>on</strong>currently, <strong>the</strong> procedure specified in clause 1.9 above shall be<br />

followed,<br />

<strong>the</strong> time allocati<strong>on</strong>s being those set out in 3(d) below.<br />

3. RADIO CONTROL OPERATION:

(a) <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>of</strong>ficial NZMAA radio c<strong>on</strong>trol frequency pegboard system<br />

must be<br />

correctly used by all R/C fliers, for all transmitters, including<br />

transmitters<br />

operating in <strong>the</strong> 2.4 GHZ band.<br />

(b) Any R/C flier operating any transmitter <strong>on</strong> any band must<br />

that transmitter an approved flag that matches <strong>the</strong> frequency <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> transmitter<br />

and must use <strong>the</strong> appropriate frequency peg.<br />

(c) Use <strong>of</strong> Syn<strong>the</strong>sised Frequency Equipment.<br />

You must have a separate transmitter flag, marked with <strong>the</strong><br />

channel for every frequency that you are prepared to use when<br />

you change frequencies. You must take extra care when using<br />

<strong>the</strong> frequency c<strong>on</strong>trol system.<br />

For more details <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> operati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>sised frequency<br />

equipment see here<br />

http://nzmaa.org.nz/rules/NewTechnologyTransmitterPolicyv1.3.pdf<br />

(d) Frequency pegs are not to be removed from <strong>the</strong> site.<br />

(e) Where two or more R/C fliers are sharing a given frequency,<br />

n<strong>on</strong>e may use it<br />

for more than:<br />

(i) 15 minutes fixed wing power models?<br />

(ii) 20 minutes all o<strong>the</strong>r R/C models? or<br />

(iii) a period agreed between <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

(f) Any R/C flier causing a shootdown is pers<strong>on</strong>ally resp<strong>on</strong>sible for<br />

fully compensating <strong>the</strong> owner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> affected model.<br />

(g) <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> unsupervised flying <strong>of</strong> any R/C model aircraft at <strong>the</strong><br />

Trentham site is<br />

forbidden unless <strong>the</strong> flier has passed <strong>the</strong> NZMAA pr<strong>of</strong>iciency test<br />

appropriate<br />

to that aircraft type.

(h) Any R/C flier out <strong>of</strong> practice must enlist <strong>the</strong> assistance <strong>of</strong> an<br />

experienced flier<br />

until renewed competence is dem<strong>on</strong>strated.<br />

(i) Those fliers who have not passed <strong>the</strong> NZMAA Wings Badge<br />

test shall have<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir new R/C models, and those that have been repaired after a<br />

crash, checked<br />

We seem to have a huge increase in <strong>the</strong> new heli’s flyers in <strong>the</strong> last couple <strong>of</strong> m<strong>on</strong>ths. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> amount <strong>of</strong> heli flyers turning up <strong>on</strong><br />

a Sunday afterno<strong>on</strong> is quite impressive if not a little daunting! <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are so many Raptor helicopters at <strong>the</strong> field now I’m sure<br />

we must shares in <strong>the</strong> company!<br />

All <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regular heli boys have been spending a lot <strong>of</strong> time setting up a lot <strong>of</strong> new machines and getting to know all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

new guys a bit better. You all know how sociable we heli guys are. I think <strong>the</strong> regular comment for <strong>the</strong> planes boys is “less<br />

chatting more flying guys!!”<br />

Unfortunately summer has ended so, so has our Thursday night BBQ with G2 at <strong>the</strong> helm. I think it’s a traditi<strong>on</strong> that dates<br />

back to <strong>the</strong> early 1940`s. G2 is <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>ly <strong>on</strong>e <strong>the</strong> really knows for sure.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> our new guys J<strong>on</strong>o has been finding us indoor events for our little electric heli’s. I want to pers<strong>on</strong>ally thank him for all<br />

<strong>the</strong> hard work he puts in finding us large cheap venues. It’s not an easy thing to c<strong>on</strong>vince people that we aren’t going to<br />

destroy <strong>the</strong>ir building with our models. With winter nearly up<strong>on</strong> us I can see us doing a lot more indoor flying.<br />

All in all <strong>the</strong> last couple <strong>of</strong> m<strong>on</strong>ths have been excellent. Let’s hope <strong>the</strong> winter m<strong>on</strong>ths bring us some nice settled flying<br />

Multiplex Easy Glider Electric<br />

Review by Les Greig<br />

Having made up my mind to have a glider in my hanger I set about deciding what was<br />

needed.<br />

It had to have full c<strong>on</strong>trol surfaces<br />

Have presence in <strong>the</strong> air<br />

A scale look<br />

2m span<br />

Str<strong>on</strong>g for a learner<br />

With he help <strong>of</strong> Sim<strong>on</strong> Young a search <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> net and having a close look at <strong>the</strong> Multiplex<br />

Easy Star <strong>of</strong> David Butel<br />

A joint decisi<strong>on</strong> was made <strong>the</strong> Multiplex Easy Glider Electric fitted all and more <strong>of</strong> my<br />

requirements,<br />

As luck goes R C Bandit had a sale <strong>on</strong> at that time and I purchased <strong>the</strong> last <strong>on</strong>e, toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

with most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> electrics needed.

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> parts<br />

Easy Glider Electric Elapor foam<br />

Hyperi<strong>on</strong> HP-Y22L-2840 brushless motor<br />

Waypoint W-EBLESC-25 speed c<strong>on</strong>trol<br />

BlueBird bms-371 x 4 servos<br />

Extensi<strong>on</strong> leads 60mm l<strong>on</strong>g<br />

Lipo 2s 1800 mah<br />

CA and activator<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> build<br />

Opening <strong>the</strong> box c<strong>on</strong>firmed that this kit was a top Kit. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> manual was very clear, full and<br />

<strong>of</strong> a good quality pictures. A check list <strong>of</strong> all parts made it easy to check <strong>of</strong>f all parts and<br />

this was so. First up identify all <strong>the</strong> hardware and put aside in order.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> fusealge<br />

Fit <strong>the</strong> snakes elevator ,rudder and aerial <strong>the</strong>se are <strong>of</strong> differing size so be sure you use <strong>the</strong><br />

correct <strong>on</strong>e. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>se snakes also help <strong>the</strong> glider to keep true and stiffen <strong>the</strong> boom. At this time<br />

also fit <strong>the</strong> canopy latches both female and male so you can see <strong>on</strong> a side view if it is a<br />

correct fit install <strong>the</strong> rudder hinge as well. This is a departure from <strong>the</strong> manual.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> motor wedge is also fitted at this time and a opti<strong>on</strong> is to place <strong>the</strong> motor in its positi<strong>on</strong><br />

as well if you desire. Fit a servo to each side and cut to fit if needed. Double sided tape or<br />

hot glue <strong>the</strong>m into positi<strong>on</strong>. Run <strong>the</strong> push rods at <strong>the</strong> same time.<br />

CA <strong>on</strong>e side <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fuselage and spray activator <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r. Now <strong>the</strong> next step is critical<br />

for <strong>the</strong> glider to be straight. I had Sim<strong>on</strong> hold <strong>the</strong> tail end and I had <strong>on</strong>e side in each hand<br />

and slowly bring both sides toge<strong>the</strong>r keeping <strong>the</strong>m tight and straight check it and bend it if it<br />

needs to be<br />

.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rudder<br />

First cut a slot to take <strong>the</strong> hinge make this bigger than <strong>the</strong> hinge as when fitted it goes in <strong>on</strong><br />

an angle. Next cut down <strong>the</strong> T piece <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> horn to a depth <strong>of</strong> 2mm this is very important as<br />

not to be restricted by <strong>the</strong> hinge placement. Bring toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Tail plane and fin for fit .<br />

Make <strong>the</strong> fit with a square at <strong>the</strong> ready and adjust if needed.ca and make sure it is square<br />

Now fit <strong>the</strong> tail plane and fin to <strong>the</strong> boom see how <strong>the</strong> fit is and how you bring it toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

first. Put <strong>the</strong> carb<strong>on</strong> wing joiner through <strong>the</strong> wing holes to get a <strong>line</strong> <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> true fit. I used a<br />

flat 1m ruler for this as it did not roll around when lining it up. Ca and bring toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>line</strong><br />

up <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> ruler to make sure it is sitting true adjust quickly if needed. Fit both horns and<br />

rods using <strong>the</strong> out side holes and <strong>the</strong> 3rd holes <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> servos. Now CA <strong>the</strong> hinge into <strong>the</strong><br />

rudder. Move <strong>the</strong> rudder both ways to make sure <strong>of</strong> a good fit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hinge before it sets.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Wings<br />

Fit <strong>the</strong> horns and rods into <strong>the</strong> 2nd hole from <strong>the</strong> wing cut <strong>the</strong> ailer<strong>on</strong>s free. Place and fit <strong>the</strong><br />

servos after centering <strong>the</strong> servos move <strong>the</strong> arm to 80o forward. This is in order to get <strong>the</strong><br />

correct settings later. Run <strong>the</strong> servo leads down <strong>the</strong> side <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wing joiner cover ca <strong>the</strong><br />

cover in place .Cut a slot at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> wings to make sure <strong>of</strong> room for <strong>the</strong> leads to be<br />

placed in a downward positi<strong>on</strong> when <strong>the</strong> wings are joined. At this time check <strong>the</strong> carb<strong>on</strong><br />

joiner rod for fit and bring wing toge<strong>the</strong>r an observe <strong>the</strong> fit. Now you can see how <strong>the</strong> fit is.<br />

Separate and now fit to <strong>the</strong> fuselage making sure <strong>the</strong> leads are placed down into <strong>the</strong> battery<br />

hole and run <strong>the</strong>m down each side <strong>the</strong>n out at <strong>the</strong> canopy.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Electrics<br />

Fit <strong>the</strong> motor if not d<strong>on</strong>e earlier bring <strong>the</strong> wedge up to plug it in I needed an extra 1o <strong>of</strong><br />

down trust so placed a small <strong>of</strong>f cut under <strong>the</strong> motor. At this point make sure <strong>the</strong> canopy<br />

peg does not push <strong>the</strong> motor down cut to fit your motor. Mine was cut <strong>of</strong>f about 5mm. Also<br />

make sure <strong>the</strong> motor leads are at <strong>the</strong> top and away from <strong>the</strong> wedge. Install <strong>the</strong> speed c<strong>on</strong>trol<br />

flat <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> floor but it could have been <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> side but make sure it clears <strong>the</strong> canopy if

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Hot</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Air</str<strong>on</strong>g> - Product Reviews<br />

fitted <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> side. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> receiver fits <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> floor in fr<strong>on</strong>t <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> battery. Fit <strong>the</strong> prop. Slot in<br />

<strong>the</strong> battery and check <strong>the</strong> C G 70mm from <strong>the</strong> leading edge .Move <strong>the</strong> battery and mark it.<br />

Test all servos and motor.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Settings.<br />

As per <strong>the</strong> manual apart from <strong>the</strong> elevator which I as a learner, cut back 50% and found this<br />

much easer for c<strong>on</strong>trol. Expo 30% <strong>on</strong> all sticks as well.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Flight Test<br />

Roger Hoy was first up after a trim up <strong>the</strong> smile was so<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> his dial .That said it all.<br />

Next up Rod. First timer glider pilot. Yip again <strong>the</strong> big smiles. Next up Mr Glider himself<br />

Bob well what a sight bob flying a foamy and at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> a very l<strong>on</strong>g flight <strong>the</strong> verdict<br />

was a great glider and a fantastic entry level for gliders. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> Recording <strong>of</strong>ficer tells me it<br />

can be entered in all but two competiti<strong>on</strong>s, if fitted with <strong>the</strong> correct batteries.<br />
