A Letter from the Editor
By Helmut Lingohr
Almost four months have passed since our last
newsletter in April went to our members and readers.
Now it is only one more month and our annual threeday
Labor Day event is knocking at the door.
Looking back to April, this year Easter was a
wonderful day and the weather was just right. The
Easter Egg Hunt was a complete success in the
Cannstatter Park under the blue sky. The Easter Bunny
had an easy time hiding the eggs, so the little ones
had a wonderful time finding them. Some of the eggs
were so well hidden that as our directors held our
spring cleaning day there were still a few missing
eggs found on the grounds. This year the club hosted
two Easter Egg Hunts. New for this year was the one
held on the Sunday before Easter by the Kolping Club,
who now makes the Cannstatter their home. They
welcomed all the children of members of both clubs.
Plus as usual the second one was held on Easter
morning by the Cannstatter Club.
Mother’s Day dinner was again a busy Sunday for
the club as it has been in the past. The waitresses
and kitchen staff did their best to make our customers
feel welcome.
The Kolping Club was first this year in holding an
event using the outside facilities. They held a picnic
that was open to the public.
The band Blackthorn returned to the Cannstatter
for the Memorial Day weekend to entertain their
guests with music in the park. This event was
accompanied with Irish food and beer. It was an
enjoyable and successful day as all the years before.
On the first Sunday in June it was the
Cannstatter’s official park opening day for 2011. For
all the guests there was plenty of food and drinks
available at the outdoor stands. I also have to thank
St. Medard the Patron Saint against bad weather for
the beautiful day. There were games to play with
prizes to win for children of all ages throughout the
afternoon. The highlight of the afternoon was
introducing Miss Cannstatter 2011-2012, Julia
Duffield to all the people present in the park. Some of
our indoor guests were also lucky enough to meet
Julia behind the bar as she was serving them drinks.
The summer months in the club are always more
peaceful in comparison to the rest of the year. Some
of the recent changes made at the club were the
addition of lunch being served in the club’s Stuttgarter
Bar every Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM
and also now the club is offering lunch on Sunday’s
from 11 AM to 2 PM in the dining room along with the
usual offering of dinner from 1 PM to 7 PM.
There will be three events in August this year. The
Ladies’ Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, August
3rd and the Car Show will also return on Saturday,
August 13th in the park. The Kolping Club will have a
Beef & Beer on Saturday, August 20th. You can see
these events all listed on the “Upcoming Events”
pages of the magazine.
Yes, for some of us the summer will pass by faster
than we wish, like every summer in the past. For me
personally, since I’ve known there is a 4th of July, I
always have this feeling that when we pass that
holiday the summer starts heading straight towards
its end. This is especially noticeable when you have
picnics in your backyard and you have to light up the
torches to keep the mosquitoes away as darkness
comes earlier every weekend.
For us at the Cannstatter the month of August
means preparing and building up for the upcoming 3day
Labor Day weekend. And so with this in mind we
hope the weather this year will return the same as it
did for us last year and I hope I see you there on one
of the three days or even better on all three days.
Should this holiday weekend be a bit boring for you
don’t forget we can always find a job for you to help
the club over that weekend. Any help from our
members and friends is always appreciated. All are
welcome to help! Therefore I am looking forward to
seeing you at the Bratwurst stand.
Guten Appetit!
