Studies at Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, San Francisco.<br />

1929<br />

Returns to studies at both Mark Hopkins Institute of Art and the California School of Fine Arts.<br />

1945<br />

Sees Jackson Pollock’s solo show at San Francisco Museum of Art, which greatly informs later work.<br />

1946<br />

Studies at California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco, on the G.I. Bill. Establishes a storefront studio at<br />

700 Lombard Street, San Francisco, a gathering place for artists. He becomes an important figure for<br />

second-generation abstract expressionists in San Francisco.<br />

1950–55<br />

Teaches printmaking at CSFA.<br />

1961–65<br />

Teaches paitning at San Francisco Art Institute, formerly CSFA.<br />
