at the Community Music School

F or
more than a quarter century, the Community musiC sChool of
springfield has been dedicated to making arts education, particularly
music, affordable and accessible to our community. We bring together children,
teens and adults in an environment that respects diversity and fosters creativity.
CMSS celebrates the rich cultural heritage and sense of community that music
and the arts inspire in all of us.
Our summer session, while shorter than our typical fall and spring semesters
is the perfect time to take a music lesson on an instrument that suits you and
to engage in musical activities with others just like you. Whether interested in
an individual lesson or participating in one of our lively summer music sampler
classes, children and adults can combine a love and fascination for music making.
Located in an historic Art Deco designed 1930’s building, the Community Music
School of Springfield welcomes everyone. Our professional teaching faculty of
fifty performing musicians and highly skilled music instructors bring many years
of teaching experience and they take pride in the musical activities offered to
more than 800 students annually.
Attendance for Individual Instruction - During the summer, the schedule for individual instruction of faculty members
may differ. Faculty may teach between 4 and 8 weeks. It is preferable that students study with faculty for as many weeks
as the faculty member is available. However, during the summer, students may register for fewer lessons if the faculty
member agrees:
1. Students must speak with the Registrar regarding individual lessons registration; and
2. Faculty must approve irregular schedules.
session group classes and individual lessons. Senior citizens only pay $5 for summer session.
FACULTY ABSENCES - A teacher’s absence requires that the lesson be made up at a mutually convenient time before the
absence, the account will be credited after the end of the summer session.
