Tracy and Eldon met at the University of Cape
Town and were friends for a long time before
finally hooking up. They live in London now,
but wanted to return to the Winelands for their
wedding, for the “spectacular setting and firstclass
wine and food.”
Eldon surprised Tracy with his proposal on
a trip to Bali. She describes it: “On our second
last night, while we were sipping cocktails on
the beach, he arranged for our villa to be
transformed into the most romantic place on
earth … decked out with flaming torches and a
hundred candles, our private pool was filled to
the brim with flower petals! A table set for two
awaited us by the edge of the pool, where our
butler cooked us our very own gourmet
barbeque. The ring came during the sorbet
course … I hadn’t expected it at all and it was
really special!”
There wedding too was incredibly romantic
and intimate, with only closest friends and
family invited. “Having the entire Webersburg
Estate to ourselves, surrounded by mountains
and blue sky, a beautiful lake in the
background, was surreal!” Eldon’s highlight was
“seeing Tracy emerge from the manor house in
the most beautiful dress” - silk with Swarovski crystals and pearls.
Guests were welcomed with homemade lemonade and handed parasols to keep
them cool. Melodies by a string quartet drew them to the ceremony area beside the
manor house. The ceremony was short and sweet, with a children’s choir as a
surprise highlight. The choir led the bride and groom towards the pre-dinner drinks
area, singing and dancing all the way as the guests showered them with rose petals.
The theme for pre-drinks was an “old English tea party with an African twist”,
accompanied by an African Marimba band and scrumptious canapés and cocktails.
Food played a very important part in their day, with a selection of the favourite
dishes they had experienced throughout their travels.
In the reception venue two long banqueting tables were adorned with floral
arrangements, including King Proteas and orchids, sparkling chandeliers strung
above. Tracy tells the rest of the story: “We entered to the tune of Kylie’s Two Hearts
and sat down to a delectable six-course meal and speeches, which went down a
treat! Then came the cutting of the cake, before our first dance to Michael Buble’s
Feeling Good. Desserts were served canapé-style while guests partied on the dance
floor or mingled outside by the lake. Unfortunately the evening had to come to an
end, with guests taking home a box of our delicious wedding cake and a bottle of
estate wine. We went back to our honeymoon suite to unwrap gifts and enjoy a
lovely bath.”
The couple went to the Seychelles for 2 weeks, staying at the Banyan Tree, Maia
and North Island. They enjoyed their wedding so much that they decided to do it all
over again with a private ceremony and photo shoot on the beach at North Island!
