We extend a hearty and sincere thank you to all who have served Christ and
the church this past year as a Church School volunteer. Each week a faithful
group of teachers and helpers strive to make the real “ageless story” of God’s
love for all in Jesus Christ.
Since the last children’s Church School class for the summer is June 6, we
will be recognizing our volunteers in worship that day. There will also be a
breakfast for teachers and students at 9:30 A.M. (The last class for Adult Forum for the summer is June 13 at 9:15 A.M.)
Special, warm thanks goes to the following committed and dedicated workers: Suson Akakpo-Martin, Luanne Applegate, Chris and
Spencer Bevins, Laura Campbell, John Diller, Tamie and Warren Dodson, Linda Eppley, Janice Goodling, Erika and Max Lauffer,

JUNE 13
On Sunday, June 13, Pastor Potter has been invited to
preach at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. Having
served the Mechanicsburg Church for close to twentythree
years as Associate Pastor, the church will be hanging
a photo that day of Pastor Potter in recognition of his service.
Guest preacher in our pulpit will be the Rev. Myrtle
McCall, Temporary Supply Associate Pastor at Mechanicsburg.
Myrtle has been an active member of the Presbytery
of Carlisle for a number of years. Before going to the
Mechanicsburg Church, Myrtle served as Chaplain of
Green Ridge Village Retirement Center, Newville. We
hope you will be on hand to welcome Pastor McCall as
she leads us in worship on June 13.

Music Notes...
THANK YOU!! to all who participated in music for Palm Sunday and Easter. Our handchime
choir is the BEST!!!! And the second annual singing of the chorus was outstanding!!
Special music for MAY and JUNE:
All mothers and daughters are invited to join choir on Sunday, May 9. Our second annual Mother’s Day
choir will rehearse at 10:00 that morning and sing for worship. NO AGE LIMITS!!! NO EXPERIENCE
NECESSARY!!!
AND………..on Father’s Day, June 20, all fathers and sons will be our choir for the day.
JUNE 6: Claire and Kelly Susemihl, graduating seniors, will present a recital in our
sanctuary at 2:00 P.M. Details will follow in Sunday bulletins.
Looking Ahead:
Several men in our congregation are “drumming up” interest for a men’s chorus to sing
for worship on Sunday, July 4. Details will follow, but mark your calendars now!!!

SAGE JUNE TRIP…
Sign up for the Wednesday, June 16 Senior Adult Group Exchange trip to Raystown Lake.
We will enjoy a leisurely 11:30 A.M. - 1:30 P.M. cruise and lunch aboard one of the comfortable
boats of “Seven Points Marina”. The Pep Set of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian
Church will be with us for the outing.
Cost is $44 per person, payable at sign-up. Be at the church by 7:45 A.M. on June 16
to board the motor coach. The luncheon menu includes: honey glazed chicken, green
bean casserole, cole slaw, potato salad, fruit, rolls and beverage.

PENTECOST SUNDAY - MAY 30
In preparation for the observance of Pentecost - the Birthday of
the church - you are invited to read Acts 2. This is an exciting time
when the church was blessed with the power of the Holy Spirit. The first
disciples received a new sense of purpose as the Spirit filled their hearts
and lives. They were motivated to go into all the world with the good
news of God’s love in Jesus Christ.
Join us for Pentecost on May 30 and plan to wear something red.
As you know, red symbolizes the fire of the Spirit that descended on
each disciple. In worship that day, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper
and hope you will be in attendance. This will be the last communion
until August and we would like to see YOU in worship. Bring a friend
and let’s fill the church on Pentecost!
The annual Pentecost Offering also will be received on May 30. This annual offering
benefits children at risk, youth and young adults. Our congregation will keep 40% of the offering
to support work on behalf of children at risk. The remaining 60% goes to the General
Assembly for children’s advocacy, ministries with youth and young adults and young adult
volunteer opportunities. Last year we received $568 and the portion we retained was $227.

The “GRACES” Book Club
Great Reads And Conversational ExchangeS are what’s in store at our next gathering!
The GRACES will be meeting again on Tuesday, May 11th at 7:00 P.M. at the home of Chris Bevins.
Anyone who enjoys books, laughter and food is welcome to attend!
On May 11th, the GRACES will be discussing The Kitchen Boy, by Robert Alexander, a fictional
account of the final days of the last Russian tsar, Nicholas II. Even if you haven’t started reading
The Kitchen Boy yet, you still have time to finish it before May 11th—it is a short book that is
available in paperback. So pick up a copy now and please join us for what is sure to be a fun evening!
Looking ahead to July…
The July meeting of the GRACES will be held on Tuesday, July 13th, once again at the home
of Chris Bevins. For July, the GRACES will be reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Set in the South during the 1960s, The Secret Life of Bees is a story of insight and wisdom about
mothers, daughters and the “transforming power” of love. We hope that you will join us in discovering
this book that has been enjoyed by book groups all across the country!

News From Mary’s Circle…
YARD AND BAKE SALE RESULTS…. $1,129.85!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a tremendous amount of
money, which could only have
happened:
☺with all the hard work of the volunteers who came Friday and Saturday,
☺and all the people who donated their “treasures” so they could become someone else’s
“treasures”,
☺and the baked goods that arrived from those who took time to make them!!
Special thanks to Rose Ann Yeich, who put in countless hours of diligently pricing everything, and
her assistant on Friday night, Virginia Olsen, and special thanks to Jay Wilsbach, our church sexton,
who spent extra hours cleaning up, once all the “stuff” was taken by Volunteers of America, to have
Fellowship Hall ready for the very next day, Sunday morning!!
Mary’s Circle wants you all to know that we could not have done it without all the help everyone provided.
You are all appreciated. (Editor’s note: Judy P. always neglects to mention herself in this
group of hard workers...she does an amazing job with these sales and her efforts are greatly appreciated
by everyone.)
Next Yard and Bake Sale will be September 25, 2004, and believe it or not, we have already received
some fresh items for it.
THRIFT SHOP VOLUNTEERS…..thank you all for turning out March 30, 31, April 1, 2. Our church’s
next turn will be June 1-4.
REMAINING DATES for Mary Circle are: May 17 and June 14 before we break for the summer.
We will be concluding our Bible study on The Face is Familiar, Remembering Unnamed Women in
Scripture. A special treat, if any of the women can make it, on May 17, we will have a monologue
given by Darlene Murray, as our study. The meeting will be in the Memorial Lounge and starts at
6:15 P.M.
