MIRIAM DOLLMAN
FACULTY AWARD RECIPIENT

Morah Miriam Dollman has been teaching for the past
twenty-two years, eighteen of which have been spent at
Westchester Day School. Over the years, families at WDS
claimed they felt privileged that not just one of their
children had “Morah Miriam” as their Kindergarten
teacher, rather most or all their children experienced the warmth and fine MIDOT she
embodies, making it a unique family connection.
From a very early age, Miriam knew that she wanted to be an educator. To meet her
educational goals she attended Teachers College at Columbia University. She also attended
The College of Staten Island where she majored in Special Education. She uses those
learned visual skills to enhance her kindergarten students’ education. In 2000, Morah
Miriam’s love of teaching and devotion to her students was recognized by WDS when she
was awarded the Gorfinkle Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Miriam is the mother to Baruch and Sarah, Eli and Hadassah. Hadassah attended the Ganon
program at WDS, affording her a strong Jewish educational foundation. Baruch and Sarah
reside in Silver Spring where Baruch attends Yeshiva Gedolah and College and Sarah
teaches in the Yeshiva High School. Eli and Hadassah are both students in college pursuing
their degrees. Miriam is extremely proud of her children’s achievements which have
allowed her to reach her own teaching aspirations.
Miriam has said, “In looking back at my years at Westchester Day School, it has been an
honor and a pleasure and great NACHAT watching my kindergartners grow from
adolescence into teenage years to becoming young men and women who are productive in
the Jewish community and contributing to the world at large”.
