C. Evaluation of Tra<strong>in</strong>ee Competence<br />
• Assessment and Appraisal<br />
• Established Committee to evaluate tra<strong>in</strong>ee’s competence, theoretical and practical<br />
endoscopies.<br />
• A portfolio conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the detailed endoscopy performance of the tra<strong>in</strong>ee is desirable.<br />
• Superiors and peers op<strong>in</strong>ion about the tra<strong>in</strong>ee is a valuable <strong>in</strong>formation as well as the<br />
collaboration personnel’s op<strong>in</strong>ion.<br />
• Regular Written records detail<strong>in</strong>g the progress of each tra<strong>in</strong>ee.<br />
• Def<strong>in</strong>ed program of feedback to the tra<strong>in</strong>ee.<br />
Elements of Competence to Be Evaluated<br />
1 Understand<strong>in</strong>g and commitment to all elements of professionalism.<br />
2 Knowledge of history-tak<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g family, genetic, psychosocial and<br />
environmental histories.<br />
3 Ability to perform a comprehensive and accurate physical exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />
4 To design and obta<strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>formed consent for every s<strong>in</strong>gle procedure its benefit and<br />
complications probabilities and its solutions.<br />
5 To arrive at an appropriate differential diagnosis, to outl<strong>in</strong>e a logical plan for specific<br />
and targeted <strong>in</strong>vestigation perta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to the patient's compla<strong>in</strong>ts and to formulate a plan<br />
for management and follow up endoscopic treatment of the patient.<br />
6 The complete knowledge of the endoscopic <strong>in</strong>struments, accessories and devices.<br />
7 Ability for sedation and monitor<strong>in</strong>g of patients. Adequate <strong>in</strong>dications, contra<strong>in</strong>dications,<br />
complications and antidotes.<br />
8 <strong>Endoscopy</strong> performance follow<strong>in</strong>g the state of the art abilities, follow<strong>in</strong>g the tra<strong>in</strong>er’s<br />
directions and The QC <strong>in</strong>dications of pre and post exam.<br />
9 Ability to present the results of an endoscopic consultation, verbally, <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
images documents such as photos or videos. To defend the cl<strong>in</strong>ical/ endoscopical<br />
assessment, differential diagnosis, diagnostic and management plan.<br />
10 Procedural skills appropriate to the level of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Gastro<strong>in</strong>test<strong>in</strong>al <strong>Endoscopy</strong> and<br />
gastro<strong>in</strong>test<strong>in</strong>al bleed<strong>in</strong>g. Knowledge of the very new <strong>in</strong>struments and its usefulness,<br />
new devices or new applications.<br />
11 Clips edition capability.<br />
12 Adequate communication with the referral physician.<br />
13 Medicolegal Issues should be considered <strong>in</strong> Modern Endoscopic learn<strong>in</strong>g curriculum.<br />
14 Ability to produce protocols, cl<strong>in</strong>ical endoscopical <strong>in</strong>vestigation and research. To<br />
express the results verbally <strong>in</strong> endoscopic sem<strong>in</strong>ars or congresses and <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g as<br />
Endoscopic Journal papers.<br />
15 The ability to understand the platform concept of different endoscopical /surgical<br />
solutions accord<strong>in</strong>g to the complexity of the case and the availability of endoscopic<br />
<strong>in</strong>struments and different endoscopic accesses.<br />
D. Methods of Evaluation<br />
1 Observation dur<strong>in</strong>g procedures, rounds and conferences.<br />
2 Formal evaluation forms from each faculty member who comes <strong>in</strong> contact with the<br />
tra<strong>in</strong>ee.<br />
3 Formal assessment of cl<strong>in</strong>ical and endoscopic skills us<strong>in</strong>g patient-based exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />
4 Log-Books (Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Record Book) and objective evaluation forms for all endoscopic<br />
procedures and the levels of skill. These are provided to and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed by the tra<strong>in</strong>ee
