Julie’s Resignation
Dear Committee & Members
ABN 53 797 781 246 2013
As many of you would be aware Julie Tudhope our beloved and dedicated club member has
tendered her resignation from her rolls on the Committee, I won’t go into details other then to say that
Julie has made this decision of her own free will, and we will miss her as part of the committee.
Husband John is still part of the committee, although working in Sydney at present and so we don’t
get to see him as much as usual.
Julie will stay as a dedicated member and still be at Functions and behind the scenes for the club
and I am sure we will all see Julie on Rides whenever John is home and available for a ride.
As Jodi Foran is assistant Secretary she has been doing a fantastic Job taking over the reigns from
Julie and getting out all the information and flyers to us all and I thank her and her helpers so very
much. If you can add to or help Jodi in any way please let her know as this position is the life blood of
the MNCHOG Club
Kind Regards
May/June 2013 DEALER NEWS
Greetings All
We are all no doubt aware of what a huge year that we have in front of us and so many things that
have already happened. Some of you attended the 110 th Anniversary Celebration’s at
Williamstown and from what I hear it was an event not to be missed with great entertainment and
some terrific displays with an appearance from CEO Keith Wandell and Barry Allen H-D inc, a
major Coo for us Aussie’s, this was Keith’s first visit down under and we hope the 1 st of many
more to come, I had the privilege of being invited to have dinner with Keith and Barry and their
wives and staff in Sydney a couple of days prior to them attending the 110 th and was very
encouraged and enlightened by their interest in our Dealership and that of Australian Customers
wants and needs. Let’s hope that the information that was gathered on this quick trip will turn into
positive outcomes for us all.
We have also been getting a lot of people speaking about attending our Clubs Rally in October; I
am hoping they will be as impressed if not more so than those that attended the 110 th ,Don’t forget
to register yourself online for YOUR own Rally; your support is paramount in the success of this
first time MNC HOG State Rally.
I was very happy to see so many members out for a ride on the Dice Run last weekend that was
held as a memorial for Bren James and I hope all that where there had a great day, the weather
certainly played along I am sure Bren was with us all in some way and given the response could
become an annual event.
Many of you will have also seen the Charity Ride that we are putting on in conjunction with Rotary
Gloucester and Wingham for my Late Father Norm, if you wish to participate and haven’t already
registered you can through our web site, www.v-twins.com.au look forward to seeing as many
Members and Harleys as possible there.”Starts in Wingham and ends in Krambach” Sunday 23 rd
June.
3 rd -5 th of May seen N C V-Twins attend the Gloucester Motorcycle Muster , a great weekend and
great support by Bryan and the Club members that attended we all had a hoot.
H-D A has confirmed that we will have Demonstrator bikes available for our State Rally and also
for our Open day and Demonstrator Day on the 2 nd of November. We are planning a couple of
different Demo Days for later in the year to accommodate North to Ballina and South to Taree
Customers, We will let you know dates ASAP but the 2 nd of November is the Coffs Demo Day
N C V-Twins has a new ambassador by the Name of Phil Jamison from the band “Grinspoon “who
is passionate about Harleys, I hope you will get to meet this very talented musician at some of our
functions within the coming months, We also have a new part time staff member and Hog Club
Member Dave Laarhoven that many of you would remember on his hot Orange 48 Sporty in
Canberra, Dave joins the team to manage or social media and web site commitments and we are
very excited and pleased to have Dave’s level of professionalism on our team. Dave and Karissa
have been hard at work putting together our H-D Boot-camp experience as well as Ladies Garage
party events, so stay tuned for more great events.
Hi All
Directors Report
Well what a last couple of months we have had at the Mid North Coast Chapter.
I’d like to start with the Resignation of our Secretary Julie Tudhope.
It’s always sad to see someone whose passionate stand down from positions such as the one Julie
held. Julie has decided to have a break at this stage as Secretary but is still heavily involved with
the Club. I’d like to thank Julie for all the hard work she has done in the past and would welcome
her back at any stage she feels the time is right for her.
Tuddy’s also had a lot on as he has taken a Job in Sydney for a few Months and that’s the reason
we haven’t seen him around on the rides. Hopefully when the contract’s up we will see their happy
faces back on their Road King soon.
While we have had disruptions I would like to Congratulate Jodi Foran on the fantastic job she is
doing standing up as Assistant Secretary and taking on the position of getting all our information out
to Members for our rides and our overnighters etc. Jodi is also responsible for Flyers, Newsletters
and doing a great job as the Southern committee member of Ladies of Harley.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say how hard all the Club Committee and the Rally
Committee members work to make this such a great club.
All these members have full time jobs and take a bloody lot of time out of their personal lives to bring
to you - the members - some great weekend activities for you all to enjoy, so please appreciate and
support these hard working members that do so much for the Mid North Coast Chapter.
What a great weekend we just had with the Memorial ride for Bren James who sadly past away last
year. Jodi, Chrissy and Debbie did a sensational job on organising such a great day. We had approximately
35 bikes and a lot had pillion passengers. Wazza’s family offered their support by
travelling in their cars to enjoy a great dice run. Thanks ladies for all your hard work to make that
such an enjoyment for all involved. You Made Wazza (& Bren) proud.
Next the Rally!!! If you are going to go PLEASE REGISTER!! The Rally needs the support of its
members and registration is the first step to that support. Another great way to offer support is to
register as a volunteer. Go to our website www.mnhhog.org.au and click on the 2013 State Rally
tab for full details and forms. Brad and the team have organised some great events and vendors
along with a great fun time to be had by all which you will hear in newsletters up until the Rally. Other
Clubs are now registering fast so please get in now if you are coming to this massive event.
If you don’t know what happens at a Rally CALL me on O412 807788 for more details.
If anyone has any issues with anything within the club pick up the phone and call me.
That’s it from me
Assistant Directors Report
April kicked of with Easter and what great weather we had that weekend. I managed to get a quick
ride in to Ballina to catchup with family but where very envious of Mick & Deb who had
organized a ride down to Windsor that weekend. From all reports they had a great time with lots of
stories to tell.
We had another Rally meeting in early April which was very productive. Things are moving along
well, but still heaps to do. The next Northern ride was to Stuarts Point and unfortunately due to family
commitments I couldn’t make the ride but from talking with the guys they had a good day.
Gloucester Bike Expo
Well another fantastic ride with great friends and blue skies. To start I would like to thank Ian and
Garth at V-Twins for their help on Friday night to get the Harley going. Which just happened to NOT
WANT TO PROCEED past the dealership. But the guys got us going and we appreciated there
after sales service on a late Friday afternoon. This saw a slight change in plans and Maria and I
didn’t get as far South as we were hoping to on the Friday night. Sorry yet again John & Carmel
who we have stood up for the second time. The group left Coffs early Saturday morning at 7:00am
with Chrissie, Al, Spy and Sarah all heading off in the rather chilly morning. Maria and I tagged on
at Macksville and it was off to Port Donut to meet John for his first ride with the group. Well done
mate, you fitted right in! Johno was also at the donut on his polished CVO. The Dykes made a visit
to say “hi” but unfortunately had other commitments for the weekend. We had a great run to
Gloucester, beautiful scenery and not a drop of rain. On arriving in Gloucester we dumped the gear
and headed out to the show ground to catch up with the V-Twin’s crew. QT and Heather made the
trip up from Newcastle, Phil, Nevina, Muffler Dave, Pattie and Dave also all arriving from the South.
Great turnup guys. Plenty of photos. The highlight of the afternoon for the girls was photos with
Chris lead guitarist from Silverchair, then to top it off – dinner that
evening with Phil lead singer from Grinspoon and his lovely wife Julie who partied pretty hard and
was great company. Ashley had booked the restaurant for dinner that night and we all began to party,
kicking on at the pub across the street till early hours of the morning. Sunday morning arrived too
soon, with a cupper down the street and round everyone up and off to Nabiac where Rob and Kay
were waiting with a new CVO, stunning bike and colour. Rob lead us TO THE HOME MADE
SCONE CREAM AND JAM cafe - a must for hungry hoggies!! Good trip back to Grafton and thanks
to all that made the trip.
We have some nice winter rides coming up for new members and those that may have not
ventured out for a while please contact myself if you are unsure about riding with the group, meeting
spots or any other issues. There is a great ride to the Shannon Creek Dam on 3 rd June we will be
having a BBQ lunch with some of Mum’s home baked slices and cakes. So hope to see you there.
The Coolies Rocks weekend is heating up and we have lots of interested
Hoggies that will be coming along. We are just in the process of trying to get the best deal on some
accommodation. But please send me a text or give me a call if you are interested in
coming along. It will be a fantastic weekend of hotrods and drag car racing.
Editors Report
Firstly, I would like to say how sad I am with the resignation of
Julie Tudhope as secretary. Her commitment to this club has been
above and beyond. I am only now realising what Julie put into this club giving up
her valuable time and efforts to keep things running smoothly. Julie had a passion
for this club like no other and I truly hope to see her back on the committee some
day fresh as a daisy and raring to go!
Therefore with Julies resignation and as Assistant Secretary I have had to
step up and take on the position as Stand in Secretary, hence finding out just what
Julie did for us.(PHEW) So bear with me and I will TRY to fill Julies shoes as best
as possible.
As Brads Rally report reads everything is going a long nicely. Although we
are encouraging our members to register ASAP and with that in mind we are also
needing volunteer forms filled out and handed in too. We are hoping for at least 50
volunteers.
We have had some lovely days the last couple of months and this means
great riding weather. Have a look at some of our photos from Tea Gardens,
Gloucester Expo & Bellbrook pub. Some of our photos are making it to FA-
CEBOOK, if you have any qualms about your photos being here let me know.
We are trying to advertise our rides a little more on Facebook with flyers etc
so hit ‘LIKE’ and keep informed. Thanks Laarz for keeping our FB page so
informative.
A few EVENTS to keep in mind are The Norm Beaton Memorial ride on June
23rd, a combine o’niter to Wingham on Sat June 22nd. You must register for this
ride by June 18th To Karissa at V-Twins.
The next event is a must we need you all to help celebrate our 20th
Anniversary on August 24th Sat in Bellingen at Diggers Tavern. Book your
accommodation ASAP and RSVP to jodiaforan@live.com.au for catering
purposes.
After the success of our Memorial Dice run ride for Bren James (read more
about this ride in the LOH report) we do have another combined dice run on July
21st ending at Macksville for lunch. These rides are pretty popular, I think it’s the
lure of a great cash prize. ;) So keep a look out for our flyers for these events.
Don’t be shy with your stories or photos, and let me know if you have or
would like something different in this magazine. I am here to please.
Stay safe on the road and remember Never ride faster then
your Angel can fly.
Cheers Jodi
Ladies of Harley
Report
On behalf of Chrissy and myself, we would like to Thank Julie Tudhope
for all her hard work she put into the club over the past few years. Julie
offered her help to LOH on more occasions then we remember with
raffles, prizes, organising buses & invitations for our wine tours, getting
information out and making 100s of calls to keep the ladies informed.
Your help has truly been invaluable and we wish you well and hope
to see you back on board sooner rather then later. THANKYOU xxx
What a success our BREN JAMES Memorial ride was. The support
shown toWazza and his family for Bren was overwhelming. Wazza was
genuinely humbled on the day. We had 33 bikes, a couple of cars and
52 people enjoying a beautiful sunny day. We raised about $700 for the
club which was a mammoth effort. A BIG thankyou Debbie Hull-Moody
for all her help on the day and to everyone who attended and rolled the
dice. We will definitely be making this an Annual Event.
Wazzas report and photos will be in the next issue of Grunt, stay Tuned.
Chrissy and I are looking forward to our State Rally coming up in
October. As LOH Team Leader and with my Girl Wonder, Chrissie, we
have organised a great ride on the Saturday morning of the Rally to
Bellingen and a LOH Fashion Parade (thanks to Karissa of V-Twins) on
arrival back to the showground. So get yourselves registered and enjoy
all what the State Rally will have to offer. Don’t hesitate Do it!
We would love to hear from our ladies with any ideas on rides or
shopping trips haha, Im sure the guys will support this idea whole
heartedly or just anything. Let us know what YOU want
Cheers Jodi and Chrissy

The facts about Grey Imports
Myself and most of you are aware of the flood of grey import Harley’s that have hit our shores since
the Aussie dollar has been on an all time high. I understand that on paper/screen these bikes can
look like a great saving but I would like to bring a few things to your attention that we have come
across here at V-Twins and other Dealerships in Australia where the customers are not getting
apples for apples or what they thought they were paying for.
Here is a bit of a list of things we are finding;
1. Alarms, Not Standard, as is in Australian Models Value $547 plus installation
2. ABS Brakes Not Standard, as is on Australian Models Approx $1500. Not adaptable
3. Speedo, Miles-Kilometres, Not always what the Bike has really travelled - Cost
4. Lighting Changes Required for Compliance
5. Tyres to be changed to Aussie spec
6. Belts and pulleys are different gearing for many USA States to International Motorcycles; this
has caused people to be off the road for extended periods due to no stock in Australia of parts for
the USA Models therefore having to source Parts from the USA.
7. Exhaust Systems Different for many USA states to what our bikes require, same problem as
belts and pulleys.
8. Safety and other recalls, H-D A and related departments will have no record of the bike and
therefore no way of notifying the consumer of the recall.
9. Road Side Assist is NOT included. This comes Free for 2 Yrs on Aussie new bike sales
10. Warranty - this is a BIG one. H-D Australia and the Dealer Network will do NO WARRANTY
work or are liable to do any warranty work on these motorcycles as this is built into the sale price of
Australian Motorcycles by H-D Australia.
Lastly, after doing due diligence please give us a call to check what a new or used model from us
will cost you without any grief and knowing who you are dealing with to support your new or used
pride and joy, because there are many other problems then what I have listed above or we would
all be buying these imports.
Kind Regards,
Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great
A guy who purchased his lovely
Last weekend I saw something at
Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that
sparked my interest. The occasion
was our 15th anniversary and I
was looking for a little something
extra for my wife Julie. What I
came across was a 100,000-volt,
pocket/purse-sized Tazer.
The effects of the Tazer were
supposed to be short lived, with no
long term adverse affect on your
assailant, allowing her adequate
time to retreat to safety...??
WAY TOO COOL! Long story
short, I bought the device and
brought it home... I loaded two
AAA batteries in the darn thing
and pushed the button. Nothing! I
was disappointed. I learned,
however, that if I pushed the
button and pressed it against a
metal surface at the same time, I'd
get the blue arc of electricity
darting back and forth between the
prongs.
AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I
have yet to explain to Julie what
that burn spot is on the face of her
microwave.
Okay, so I was home alone with
this new toy, thinking to myself
that it couldn't be all that bad with
only two AAA batteries, right?
There I sat in my recliner, my cat
Gracie looking on intently
(trusting little soul) while I was
reading the directions and thinking
that I really needed to try this
thing out on a flesh & blood
moving target.
I must admit I thought about
zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a
second) and then thought better of
it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I
was going to give this thing to my
wife to protect herself against a
mugger, I did want some
assurance that it would work as
advertised.
Am I wrong?
So, there I sat in a pair of shorts
and a tank top with my reading
glasses perched delicately on the
bridge of my nose, directions in
one hand, and Tazer in another.
The directions said that:
a one-second burst would shock
and disorient your assailant;
a two-second burst was supposed
to cause muscle spasms and a
major loss of bodily control; and
a three-second burst would
purportedly make your assailant
flop on the ground like a fish out
of water.
Any burst longer than three
seconds would be wasting the
batteries.
All the while I'm looking at this
little device measuring about 5"
long, less than 3/4 inch in
circumference (loaded with two
itsy, bitsy AAA batteries); pretty
cute really, and thinking to
myself, 'no possible way!'
What happened next is almost
beyond description, but I'll do my
best.
I'm sitting there alone, Gracie
looking on with her head cocked
to one side so as to say, 'Don't do
it stupid,' reasoning that a one
second burst from such a tiny lil
ole thing couldn't hurt all that
bad.. I decided to give myself a
one second burst just for heck of
it.
I touched the prongs to my naked
thigh, pushed the button, and...
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.
WEAPONS OF MASS DE-
STRUCTION. WHAT THE... !!!
I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in
through the side door, picked me
up in the recliner, then body
slammed us both on the carpet,
over and over and over again. I
vaguely recall waking up on my
side in the fetal position, with
tears in my eyes, body soaking
wet, both nipples on fire, testicles
nowhere to be found, with
my left arm tucked under my
body in the oddest position,
and tingling in my legs! The cat
was making meowing sounds I
had never heard before, clinging
to a picture frame hanging above
the fireplace, obviously in an
attempt to avoid getting slammed
by my body flopping all over the
living room.
Note:
If you ever feel compelled to
'mug' yourself with a Tazer,
one note of caution:
There is NO such thing as a one
second burst when you zap
yourself! You will not let go of
that thing until it is dislodged
from your hand by a violent
thrashing about on the floor!
A three second burst would be
considered conservative!
A minute or so later (I can't be
sure, as time was a relative thing
at that point), I collected my wits
(what little I had left), sat up and
surveyed the landscape.
My bent reading glasses were on
the mantel of the fireplace.
· The recliner was upside down
and about 8 feet or so from where
it originally was.
· My triceps, right thigh and both
nipples were still twitching..
· My face felt like it had been
shot up with Novocain, and my
bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.
· I had no control over the
drooling.
· Apparently I had crapped in my
shorts, but was too numb to know
for sure, and my sense of smell
was gone.
· I saw a faint smoke cloud above
my head, which I believe came
from my hair.
I'm still looking for my testicles
and I'm offering a significant
reward for their safe return!
PS: My wife can't stop laughing
about my experience, loved the
gift and now regularly threatens
me with it!
If you think education is difficult,
try being stupid!!!!

CHAPTER RIDE RULES
1. To participate in an official HOG ride, your motorcycle MUST be in a safe roadworthy condition
and have a current registration label affixed to it.
2. Arrive early, at least 15 minutes before departure time, with a FULL tank of fuel and when “5
minutes” is called, be ready to move off in that time.
3. To ensure maximum safety, the group will ride in staggered formation until we approach a corner
and then we will ride in single file.
4. When overtaking a slower vehicle, maintain your speed until all riders have completed the overtaking
manoeuvre.
5. Road Captains are permitted to move along the group when necessary - look out for them and
give them room.
6. Always ride in the same lane as the lead Road Captain and never overtake him.
7. Be aware of your braking distance from the vehicle in front of you and respect the other riders’
blind spot.
8. When the lead Road Captain stops to let everyone re-group, stay in position and be ready to
move off when ready to do so.
9. At designated fuel stops, be prepared to move off when the last bike has re-fuelled.
10. Enough time will be allocated for fuel and food at our designated meal stops. It is your responsibility
to ensure that your bike has been re-fuelled and refreshments taken during the allotted time.
11. When the Road Captain indicates to you to stop as a “corner marker”, wait in a safe and visible
position and direct the following riders until the rear Road Captain indicates to you to re-join at the
rear of the group.
12. If you end up being the last rider in a group that has split from the main group, wait at any turnoff
point to direct the following group.
13. All slower riders must ride at the rear of the group in fairness to other riders. If you are a slower
rider and find yourself holding up other riders that are following behind you, wave them past and
ride at the rear of the group. A Road Captain will always accompany you.
14. When a rider pulls out of the group and off the road (whether due to mechanical or other reasons),
that rider will be attended to by the rear Road Captain. The remaining riders in the group
should not stop, but continue on. If your bike breaks down, indicate clearly and get off the road as
soon as possible.
15. If you pass the front Road Captain, you are longer deemed part of the official Chapter ride.
16. The Road Captains and all group members must adhere to the road rules and speed limits at
all
times.
In the interest of safety, these Chapter Ride Rules must be adhered to when
participating in an official Chapter ride
