Welcome Welcome to our Spring <strong>2013</strong> Architecture catalogue, dedicated to our new imprint <strong>Artifice</strong> <strong>books</strong> on architecture. <strong>Artifice</strong> is committed to publishing titles that propel thinking in architecture and its related disciplines including urban design, planning and landscape design, and architectural history, theory and criticism. Now distributing Black Dog Publishing’s architecture <strong>books</strong>, <strong>Artifice</strong> has a combined list of more than 100 active titles. This season’s list presents the first in our new Contemporary Architecture series, Contemporary Architecture United Kingdom. Each book in the series will offer engaging, challenging and inspiring surveys of contemporary architecture in specific territories worldwide. The series will contribute to a broad discussion of architecture internationally and include key re-published texts and specially commissioned essays by leaders in the field. Following the success of our previous catalogue and due to popular demand, Artists’ Studios and Green Design: From Theory to Practice have been reprinted and are included once again in our catalogue, joining fellow bestsellers Atlas and Homes, Issues and Processes. We are delighted that, for the second time, a project published by <strong>Artifice</strong> <strong>books</strong> has won the highly prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize. In 2008, Accordia in Cambridge, a collaboration between three of the UK’s highly regarded architecture firms, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Maccreanor Lavington and Alison Brooks Architects was the recipient, published in Dwelling Accordia while, in October 2012, Stanton Williams’ Sainsbury Laboratory was awarded the prize, celebrated in our title, The Sainsbury Laboratory Science, Architecture, Art. <strong>Artifice</strong> continues to present the international scope of contemporary architecture with <strong>books</strong> on architecture firms, buildings and practitioners based and practicing worldwide. Our Spring <strong>2013</strong> catalogue highlights our increasing interaction with North America, with new publications from Canadian practices Montgomery Sisam and Architects Alliance while, in the UK, we present the work of London-based practice MoreySmith. We are particularly proud of the newest additions to our theoretical publications. We are pleased to be working once again with Professor Robert Maxwell on his second collection of essays, Ancient Wisdom and Modern Knowhow, as well as with Anthony Vidler, Dean of the Irwin S Chanin School of Architecture, Cooper Union, on his collected writings, The Third Typology and Other Essays. Trevor Dannatt has, together with renowned architect Eric Parry and <strong>Artifice</strong>’s publisher Duncan McCorquodale, assembled re-edited material from Dannatt’s iconic series the Architects’ Year Book as a single volume publication with contributions from and essays about Le Corbusier, Jane Drew, Maxwell Fry and other leading Modern and post-war architects, artists, designers and writers. As well as our new season’s titles, in this catalogue you will also find the full list of architecture titles published in the past by Black Dog Publishing. Enjoy!
