the third typology and other essays comprises a collecti<strong>on</strong> of anth<strong>on</strong>y<br />

vidler’s writings, opening with his 1976 editorial for oppositi<strong>on</strong>s, “the<br />

third typology.” Looking at theory and design from 1965 through to<br />

today, vidler analyses changing ideas in the theory and history of<br />

<strong>architecture</strong> through a wide selecti<strong>on</strong> of essays and extracts from sources<br />

such as oppositi<strong>on</strong>s, the princet<strong>on</strong> Journal, beaux-arts, skyline, and<br />

artforum. included am<strong>on</strong>g this selecti<strong>on</strong> of essays is a secti<strong>on</strong> dedicated<br />

to the Ledoux Museum he designed for the saline de chaux, france.<br />

anth<strong>on</strong>y vidler is a leading architectural historian, critic and theorist. he<br />

has received awards and fellowships from the guggenheim foundati<strong>on</strong><br />

and the canadian centre for <strong>architecture</strong> (cca) and was a getty<br />

scholar for art history. he is a fellow of the american academy of arts<br />

and sciences, and received the <strong>architecture</strong> award from the american<br />

academy of arts and Letters in 2011. anth<strong>on</strong>y vidler is professor and<br />

dean of the irwin s chanin school of <strong>architecture</strong>, cooper uni<strong>on</strong>.<br />
