ABOUT <strong>PUC</strong>-RIO<br />
The Pontifical Catholic University of <strong>Rio</strong> <strong>de</strong> Janeiro (<strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong>) is the leading private university in Brazil. It is organized into four centers,<br />
24 <strong>de</strong>partments and 13 institutes covering all fields of knowledge.<br />
As a Jesuit, Catholic university, <strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong> is committed to high-quality teaching, applied research and scientific <strong>de</strong>velopment based on<br />

With approximately 10,000 un<strong>de</strong>rgraduate, 2,500 graduate, and 5,000 special programs stu<strong>de</strong>nts, <strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong> is recognized as one of the<br />
top five universities in Brazil and one of the top two in <strong>Rio</strong> <strong>de</strong> Janeiro. It is among the Brazilian universities with the highest scientific<br />
output, with approximately 400 areas of research and 150 established research teams.<br />
Its graduates and faculty are among the leading experts in various fields, top managers of Brazilian firms, and highly-successful<br />
professionals and artists. Several faculty members have served in the higher ranks of the Brazilian government’s bureaucracy as<br />
Ministers, Advisors, Presi<strong>de</strong>nts or Directors since the University’s inception.<br />
Stu<strong>de</strong>nt learning takes place in a privileged physical and educational environment. The University is located in Gavea, a charming<br />
resi<strong>de</strong>ntial neighborhood near both the forest and the beach, between the South and the West zones of the city of <strong>Rio</strong> <strong>de</strong> Janeiro. The<br />
campus is a pleasant green area with a stream running through it and hosts a large variety of different species of tropical flowers and<br />
plants. The educational environment fosters aca<strong>de</strong>mic rigor, creative thinking, free inquiry and open discussion to engen<strong>de</strong>r a community<br />
of higher learning.<br />
ABOUT <strong>IAG</strong> BUSINESS SCHOOL<br />
<strong>IAG</strong> Business School was foun<strong>de</strong>d in 1978, as part of the Social Sciences Center of <strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong>. It offers un<strong>de</strong>rgraduate, graduate, doctoral,<br />
and executive programs. It has three research centers and several in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt lines of research. <strong>IAG</strong> is a founding member of the<br />
Brazilian Aca<strong>de</strong>my of Management (ANPAD), which inclu<strong>de</strong>s all graduate-level programs in the country.<br />
The faculty has around 120 members. Many professors hold a PhD <strong>de</strong>gree from some of the best universities in Brazil and around the<br />
world. In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, professors are expected to engage in consulting activities in or<strong>de</strong>r to<br />
remain attuned to the changing needs of the <strong>business</strong> community. These activities are carried out by <strong>IAG</strong> Consulting.<br />
A field in which <strong>IAG</strong> has <strong>de</strong>veloped special skills is distance learning programs, which are seen as an important tool to serve the needs<br />
of a country as large as Brazil. These programs are typically in-company.<br />
During the last five <strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s, <strong>IAG</strong> Business School has educated more than 50,000 <strong>business</strong> professionals, many of whom now occupy<br />
top positions in domestic and multinational firms and government organizations.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AT <strong>IAG</strong><br />
DOCTORAL PROGRAM<br />
The PhD Program at <strong>IAG</strong> Business School has a strong focus in research methodology and in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt inquiry. Areas of study are<br />
Finance, Marketing, Organizations, and Strategy. The program prepares stu<strong>de</strong>nts for faculty positions in leading universities in Brazil<br />
and throughout Latin America.<br />
MBA PROGRAM<br />
The MBA Program, created in 1972, was one of the first in the country. For the last 35 years it has been educating socially-responsible<br />
and competent managers. Areas of concentration are Finance, Marketing, Organizations, and Strategy. Full-time stu<strong>de</strong>nts spend two<br />
years in the program. In addition to the regular MBA, the <strong>school</strong> also offers an Executive MBA Program. The MBA Program has around<br />
170 stu<strong>de</strong>nts.<br />
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM<br />
The Un<strong>de</strong>rgraduate Program in Business Administration offered by <strong>IAG</strong> is <strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong>’s second most popular program, with 1,500 stu<strong>de</strong>nts.<br />
Its mission is to <strong>de</strong>velop stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ mental discipline, foster creativity, cultivate practical skills, and <strong>de</strong>velop their full lea<strong>de</strong>rship potential.<br />
The <strong>school</strong> offers an innovative and progressive curriculum to teach managers how to make competent and socially-responsible<br />
<strong>de</strong>cisions in turbulent times, and to un<strong>de</strong>rstand what it takes to compete and succeed in a challenging global environment.<br />
EXECUTIVE PROGRAMS<br />
Executive programs offered by <strong>IAG</strong> Business School inclu<strong>de</strong> the following one-year certificate programs: Management, Corporate<br />
Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Project Management. Several special programs are offered during the year, covering<br />
special topics in Business and related areas. The <strong>school</strong> also conducts several in-company programs which are specially <strong>de</strong>signed to<br />

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AT <strong>IAG</strong><br />
Research activities at <strong>IAG</strong> Business School aim at maintaining a scientific output commensurate with applicable international aca<strong>de</strong>mic<br />
stan<strong>da</strong>rds. Research is seen as a foun<strong>da</strong>tion for excellence in teaching. Research output covers a broad range of publications, from<br />
peer-reviewed journals to <strong>business</strong> magazines and books. To support the <strong>de</strong>velopment of research activities, the School has established<br />

• CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS RESEARCH – NUPIN<br />
NUPIN aims to be a lea<strong>de</strong>r in research on the Internationalization of Brazilian and Latin American firms and to <strong>de</strong>velop joint research<br />
with scholars from Brazil, Latin America and around the world. It is fun<strong>de</strong>d by Pronex (Program for Research Centers of Excellence),<br />
CNPq (the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development), CAPES (Coordination for the Development of Higher Education)<br />

The center conducts research in the areas of Corporate Finance and Valuation, with special emphasis in state of the art techniques such<br />
as real options valuation. Another area of interest is the study of the cost of capital for companies in Brazil, given the relative scarcity<br />
of funds and, consequently, high cost of financial resources, in its fast growing economy. Corporate governance and its relationship to<br />
stock valuation is another theme of research at the Center. The Center is supported by funds from CNPq, <strong>PUC</strong>-<strong>Rio</strong> and several research<br />
and consulting projects with private and state-owned gas, oil and power companies.<br />
• CENTER FOR RESEARCH IN ETHICS AND SUSTAINABILITY<br />
This multi-disciplinary research center is built on a partnership between <strong>IAG</strong> Business School, the Law School and the Department of<br />
Philosophy. It aims to contribute to the <strong>de</strong>bate on ethical issues in critical areas of Brazilian society, such as <strong>business</strong> ethics, government<br />
ethics, and ethics in law, as well as issues associated with the environment and sustainability, and poverty and consumption. The<br />
center is fun<strong>de</strong>d by FINEP (the Brazilian Agency to Finance Studies and Projects).<br />
The majority of faculty members are involved in one of these research centers and many also pursue in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt lines of research.<br />
