103 JONATHAN BOWNE, son of Samuel Bowne, 43, married Deborah Carman. He<br />

died iSoQ. He was a sea captain in the mercliant service <strong>and</strong> dwelt at Portl<strong>and</strong> Heights, near<br />

where he was born; '"at one time he was the only pilot that could bring a ship inside of S<strong>and</strong>y<br />

Hook."<br />

1799, Apr. 30. Jonathan Bowne quit-claimed all interest in the estate of his late father,<br />

Samuel Bowne, to his brother, Joseph, for the sum of £15.<br />

169 Ursula Bowne; married Samuel Hooper, <strong>and</strong> had two children; one, in 1894,<br />

Edward Hooper, is living, aged about 70 years, at Atlantic Highl<strong>and</strong>s, N. J.<br />

She was living, aged 81 years, in 1869; a widow.<br />

lOG JOSEPH BOWNE, son of Samuel Bowne, 43, was born Aug. 10, 1765; died, Sept.<br />

15, 1831, aged 66, i, 5; married Annie, daughter of William Applegate. She was born 1775;<br />

died, Sept. 7, 1854, aged 79, 8, 5.<br />

The Atlantic Highl<strong>and</strong>s property he owned was sold by Thos. R. Stillwell <strong>and</strong> wife Mary<br />

to Alex<strong>and</strong>er Wiley, of New York, in 1801; later, Wiley sold it to Joseph Bowne.<br />

107 JAMES BOWNE, supposed son of James Bowne, 44, was "born 1720." He was a<br />

"yeoman, of Middletown," <strong>and</strong> married, Aug. 17, 1743, Pllizabeth O. Hartshorne.<br />

There was a "James Bound," of the crew of the sloop Charming Polly, taken May 16,<br />

1777, <strong>com</strong>mitted to the Old I\Iill Prison. He was an American.<br />

New Engl<strong>and</strong> Genealogical Register, 1S65, p. 75.<br />

James Bowne was an ardent patriot during the American Revolution. He had four fourhorse<br />

teams hauling baggage for the Re\-olutionary army, <strong>and</strong> also served as a soldier in the<br />

same v.'ar. A tradition in the famil)' is, that at the close of the war, he had "'a bushel of Coi'-<br />
