There are records of a pottery, at Burlington, or near there, for the making of white<br />

"chiney " ware, in lOSo. This was the first attempt at this sort of manufacture in the Colonies.<br />

This lottery was erected by Dr. Coxe, of London, at an expense of £2,000. Desiring to<br />

sell the property, he wrote, from London, as follows:<br />

"I have erected, at Burlington, for white & chiney ware, two houses <strong>and</strong> kilns, with ail necessary implements,<br />

di\ ers workmen <strong>and</strong> other servants, <strong>and</strong> have expended thereon about 2,000 pounds. Twelve hundred<br />

l>ounds have been made, & the ware has been sold in great quantities in Rarbadoes, & the other isl<strong>and</strong>s—in the<br />

Country & in the neighboring Colonies."<br />

his property to friends <strong>and</strong> mentions no children.<br />

1785- J"^'^!'^ Cox is mentioned, as a step-brother, in the will of Thomas Saltar, 1785, <strong>and</strong><br />

was then a resident of X'orth Carolina. He had ten children, as enumerated in Thomas Saltar's<br />

will. The}' were Monmouth County i)eople. See Saltar Family.<br />
