70% <strong>of</strong> planned organizational change <strong>in</strong>itiatives fail<br />

m<strong>in</strong>imization <strong>of</strong> disruptions to <strong>in</strong>novation is “key to<br />

<strong>in</strong>novative success” (Hall and Mart<strong>in</strong> 2005, p. 274)<br />

“new” means: perceived as new by <strong>in</strong>dividuals or <strong>the</strong><br />

organization (e.g. Za<strong>in</strong>, Richardson and Adam 2002, Rogers 2003)<br />

<strong>in</strong>novation can provoke resistance (Hadjimanolis 2003)<br />

<strong>in</strong>novation <strong>barriers</strong> hamper, decelerate or even block<br />

<strong>in</strong>novation (Mirow, Hölzle and Gemünden 2007, 2008)<br />

Start<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>of</strong> our study<br />

<strong>chemistry</strong> is an established, capital <strong>in</strong>tensive <strong>in</strong>dustry<br />

exact cash flows are uncerta<strong>in</strong> and hard to quantify<br />

challenge for Green Chemistry:<br />

reduction <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>herent risk by reduction <strong>of</strong> hazard, but:<br />

current regulation focuses on reductions <strong>in</strong> exposure<br />

number <strong>of</strong> discipl<strong>in</strong>es <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> Green Chemistry is high<br />

and accord<strong>in</strong>gly <strong>the</strong> “scientific” languages<br />

“promotors by know-how” <strong>of</strong>ten not <strong>in</strong> a position <strong>of</strong> power<br />

“promotors by power” need an attitude towards Green<br />

Conclusion<br />

Green Chemistry achieved good awareness<br />

level with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> community –<br />

supply cha<strong>in</strong> and users differ<br />

strategies to overcome <strong>barriers</strong> should focus on<br />

<strong>the</strong> adoption and diffusion phase<br />

different actors on multiple levels have to be<br />
