Current Natural Grass <strong>Turf</strong> Costs<br />
• <strong>Fayette</strong> <strong>County</strong> School Facilities Director Mike Satterfield has<br />
indicated that the school system only pays <strong>for</strong> lights and<br />
water.<br />
– The system used to apply sand <strong>for</strong> top dressing at the cost of $10,000<br />
per year, but they had to abandon that practice three years ago.<br />
• All other stadium grass field maintenance fees (+/- $28K per<br />
school) rests solely with parents through booster<br />
memberships, players’ team fees and fundraising ef<strong>for</strong>ts.<br />
– To participate in a sport, what used to be free many years ago (paid <strong>for</strong><br />
by schools), now costs each player hundreds of dollars. In some cases<br />
up to $1,000 to participate.<br />
• These maintenance fees are spread across many different<br />
booster clubs/teams; football, lacrosse, soccer, track & field<br />
and band.
