FCCLA Ultimate Image Award The FCCLA Ultimate Image Award will be based on the vote of state advisers. Keep your eyes open for the state whose members most exemplify the FCCLA image and display a professional appearance throughout the conference. Further instructions and ballots will be provided in the state adviser registration packets. The state with the most votes will be presented with the FCCLA Ultimate Image Award at the Closing General Session. Adviser/Chaperone Responsibilities Advisers are responsible for the behavior and discipline of their students throughout the conference. Students causing a disturbance or displaying inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the conference and the hotel. • An adult must accompany and supervise all students at a ratio of one adult for every four students (1:4). Male chaperones should supervise male students. National headquarters will not provide supervision for students traveling alone. • There is a 12:00 midnight in-room curfew each night. This curfew should be enforced by the advisers and will be strictly enforced by the hotel security. This curfew is for the safety of the students and in respect for other guests staying at the hotel(s). Adviser Checklist Here are some suggestions that will help in your preparations for the conference. Read the brochure carefully and thoroughly so that you can maximize your overall conference experience. Make sure your chapter has paid state and national dues for all members. Check with your state adviser to determine if any travel arrangements are made by your state, and if so, what is included. If not, you must make arrangements for transportation, accommodations, and conference registration. Schedule a meeting with all conference attendees o Discuss expenses and help students determine how much spending money they will need for food, entertainment, and souvenirs. Meals are not included in the conference registration fee. o Review the dress policy and discuss appropriate clothing to take. o Determine any allergies, physical disabilities, or limitations that any of your students may have. Notify national headquarters at meetings@fcclainc.org of any special needs that may require special services at least 60 days prior to the conference. o Be sure that all release forms are signed. o Review travel plans with attendees. Where appropriate, provide parents and/or guardians with an itinerary and important telephone numbers. o Emphasize the importance of participating in the conference activities to the fullest extent. Schedule a meeting onsite after you have picked up registration materials to review the conference program in detail. o Plan to participate in as many workshops as possible and attend all general sessions. Check with your school’s accounting office to ensure that all checks have been mailed for conference registrations and hotel reservations. Remember, final payment must be received at the confirmed hotel at least 10 days in advance Before you depart for the conference, if you have not received a hotel confirmation, call the hotel to confirm your reservation has been received. Document the name of whom you talked with and the date and time of your conversation. Bring copies of your original conference registration confirmation and housing forms was well as your confirmations of each to the conference. Page 6 of 17
Conference Events Adviser Academy FCCLA is proud to continue the successful Adviser Academy—a five track program for FCCLA national recognition. The Adviser Academy is comprised of four professional development tracks held during national FCCLA meetings and one track completed with state advisers. Advisers selected to the academy are encouraged to commit to attendance at each track. Advisers will receive a certificate of completion for the Adviser Academy. Four tracks will be available at the National Leadership Conference. • Track 1: Developing a Chapter Vision Advisers selected for this program will be introduced to the National Consultant Team, learn about FCCLA curriculum, tools and integrating FCCLA into the classroom. Applications for the program can be found on the Adviser Academy page on the FCCLA website. • Track 2: Using Legislation to Change the Classroom Take your FCCLA passion to your elected officials with Adviser Academy Track 2. In this session, advisers will revisit the basics of elected government and how to use their expertise, student leadership, and drive to improve their local, state, and national FCCLA organizations by educating this specialized group of stakeholders. • Track 3: Leading at School This track will meet objectives which will aid Adviser Academy participants in gaining professional recognition in their schools. Topics include using community service within schools, working and communicating with stakeholders, and becoming visible in the FACS and CTE industry. Participants will continue to develop professional and personal skills while focusing on the broad issue of promoting FCCLA and FACS. • Track 4: Remaining Relevant as a Chapter In the 4th track, advisers will be encouraged to add to their program of work they built by continuing to integrate national programs and STAR Events into their classrooms. This track will focus on building and maintaining a healthy chapter by working with local media and making connections with business and industry leaders in their communities. Adviser Recognition Session Please encourage all award winners and chapter advisers to attend the Adviser Recognition Session. The following award recipients will be recognized at this session: • Family Economics & Financial Education Award • Integration of Core Academics Award • Spirit of Advising • Master Adviser • Adviser Mentor • Adviser Academy Graduates Adviser Networking Share ideas, find new resources, and learn about new topics affecting the classroom from the best experts-fellow FCCLA advisers and FACS teachers! Come to this session to share your experiences with peers in the field. Career Exploration Opportunities FCCLA is committed to providing its members with high quality educational resources and options during national conferences. A variety of career exploration opportunities will be available on a limited basis Tuesday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 10. Pre-registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Career exploration options will be listed on the FCCLA national website by February 28, 2013 and must be registered for online. Exhibits We need your help to continue expanding the exhibit program.
