On May 11th, Mrs.
Curtis’s drama class
competed against one
another in groups at the Top Dog Improv
show. Starting at 7:00 p.m. the admission
fee was a dollar for general admittance.
Several games were played with scenarios
written by students, scrutinized and
led by the judges of the show: Mr.
Andrulli, Mr. Walls and Mr. Herget. Armed
with buzzers and silly string spray, they
kept an ear and an eye out for any jokes
or scenes that were too crude or lewd. If
such a case occured, as with Ken
Bridwell, a student would be ‘brown-
On May 11,
2007, about
35 seniors sat,
stood, and laid in and on the FHS
football field for the Senior
Sunrise. The "party" began
around 5 a.m., with Zach Freeman
bringing cake and orange juice.
At 5:10 a.m., Zach Martin rode on
his dirt bike. Martin wanted to ride
his Rhino, a golf cart, but it did not
have any fuel in it.
At the Sunrise, Erinn Sullivan
celebrated her 18th birthday.
Around 5:30 a.m., Freeman
came up with an idea. "Lets go to
the Wigwam!" said Freeman at the
Sunrise.
At the Wigwam, about 75% of
the seniors ordered food, and
Sullivan was given 2 different
cakes for her birthday.
Some students, including Rico Ricci,
arrived at the football field between
3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Sarah Fulenwider brought her dog,
and it climbed all over Lannon Ryan
During
May, the
teachers of FHS were recognized
throughout the week
due to the celebration of
Teacher Appreciation Week.
From the 7th to the 11th,
teachers were brought small
gifts from students and the
administrative office. The
office came around on the
9th to hand out brown bags
filled with goodies and a
round of applause.
Students were encouraged
in the morning announcements
to bring food on the
morning of Friday for the
teacher luncheon.
On the 11th, at one o’clock,
the teachers gathered in the
library to enjoy food from stu-
helps in any job,” said Mrs.
During the luncheon, the
administrative members
handed out gift bags and
boxes to teachers as a sign of
appreciation.
so on. There was also a costume contest, which was
won by Sam Danner in a black dress.
Throughout the evening there were several skits performed
such as Miss America, Baseball Lovers, Mind
Over Matter, and others.
For some awards, medals were given out, depending
on the importance of the award. The final awards were
given trophies such as for Best Beginning Actor and
Actress and Best Advanced Actor and Actress.
Near the end of the night, the students held a dance
competition after learning several dances from the
1920's such as the Charleston. The contest was won
by Sam Danner and her dance partner Muryia Denton.
Without help from Mrs. Curtis, the Oscars was
planned and put together by Sarah Fulenwider and
Sheri Segal, both advanced drama students.

Dear Miss Ferro,
this situation?
Dear Annoyed,
I feel the same way about my brothers all the
does. Talk things out. Tell him how you feel. This
may help the situation.
Hybrid?
The
British
government FINALLY
caved in to using
human-animal hybrid
embryos for stem-cell
research. Talk about
cruel. I say stop! I
mean come-on I am
for saving lives but
using human-animals
embryos to do the
whole stem cell
research? That’s getting
desperate. If we
can’t use the embryos
from abortions then
Lindsay Baker
Page Editor
When
ever I go
to our
school
library
I look
for-
ward to find at least one
book that catches my
eyes, but this year and
last year there hasn’t been
one. In my opinion our
school library doesn’t
have a very good selection.
I mean it may be
small but it could have
more “good” books.
So the solution is: order
“good” books. The best
way is to request books. I,
Lindsay Baker, am putting
together a list of
we shouldn’t use
human-animal
ones.
What if some freak
accident happens
and it grows upwhat
would happen
then, you can’t really
kill a human
being? Can you?
We have enough
women getting
abortions that we
could use those. I
say if you don’t
want the “kid” then
donate the “kid” to
science so it can
save other people!
books that YOU want in
our school library. If you
want any particular book
in the library then make a
list and either put in Mrs.
Peters’ box or give it to
me. All I need is the title
and the author and I will
have Mr. Briggs order it.
The catch: If the book is
romance it can’t be too
revealing. Or it can’t be
too detailed in a certain
area. If it is a murder
book it can’t be too
detailed in certain areas!
But other than that
please write down the
books that you want and
give it to Lindsay Baker,
or put it in Mr. Peters’
box!
Cheating Teachers
Jonathan Berklund
Staff reporter
Have you
ever been
told by a
teacher or a
guardian
that you
should
not cheat? I have and the
penalties for cheating are
pretty stiff. Plagiarism is
the most common form of
cheating at FHS, and the
consequences for doing so
are very strict. The disciplinary
actions range from
three days of detention to
five of APEP. Now that
I’ve established that students
do cheat, what about
the teachers?
How is it that teachers
don’t get in trouble for
cheating like the students?
Although the teachers may
not cheat on a test or writing
an essay when it comes
to physicality they cheat
the most.
If you could be anyone in history, who would you
be and why?
I would be JFK. I would not lie and I’d be more
honest to the American People. For this is our
country and everyone needs and is needed to
be aware.- Amberleigh Thompson.
On May 11, during the
sports assembly the student
body witnessed the dodgeball
demonstration between
the Faculty team and the
student team the Mormon
Militia.
The next action was
appalling in my opinion,
the teachers were down to
one player against three,
then all the teachers came
back into the game! How
is it that as students we are
taught not to cheat but
when a teacher or a higher
official in the school system
does so it is over look?
This was not the only time
that teachers cheated.
During a previous assembly
the teachers cheated
during a basketball game.
This is uncalled for and
outrageous. I feel personally
that if students can be
penalized for such actions
so should the teachers.
Bands come and go. Sometimes
there are those bands that get into little
there are those bands that are
able to pull themselves together and
remain united throughout their entire
career.
Dark, alternative rockers, “Find Me
Addictive,” which was named by its
drummer, is a new band from
Fernley, Nevada and is composed of
a hogdepodge of students from
“We finally have a roster,” said the
outspoken drummer, Lee Daniells,
who is one of the founders and cosongwriters,
“we finally have all our
members.”
Members are a key component to
making a band work in the studio and
on the road. If you end up working
with people who, for one, have utterly
different musical tastes from your
own, and don’t display keen people
skills, chances are your band is not
going to work out. You may find yourself
more comfortable as a solo artist.
Some people, however, love the
power that comes from performing
Exercise The Pole
Walking Way!!!!!
Delaine Hain The new excer-
Editor-In-Chief cise growing trend
is called Nordic
walking. You basically just walk
with poles. It originated in Finland
over a hundred years ago for crosscrountry
skiiers to practice during
the summer time.
The technique involves leaning
slightly forward, taking long strides
and moving heel to toe while keeping
a relaxed grip on the poles. It is
very similar to cross-country skiing.
The poles cost around $50 to $200.
Their height is adjustable and they
feature rubber tips designed to grip
the pavement.
Nordic walking burns up to 400
calories an hour, compared with
350 calories for regular walking. A
and practicing with a group of five or
so people who have become your
family. How these people end up
wanting to step into that power is a
different story.
“We just wanna work,” says Daniell.
“Ending up wearing a suit and carrying
a briefcase around all day would
just suck.”
This said, knowing why you wish to
create a band, is demandingly
required; you have to know your beat
and tempo to really feel the music.
That’s really all there is in a fundamental
approach. There may be
more spiritual reasons that are more
personal to you, but basically it’s
about hiring the right people and simply
knowing why. For what purpose
do you feel you need to create music
for the rest of the world to hear?
Once you land a great group of
friendly musicians, who are experts
at their craft, and you know why
you’ve formed this band and where
you want to go with it even Martha
Stewart couldn’t find a way to sue
you!!!
doctor named Dr. Timothy Church
did a study in 2002 which ended up
revealing a twenty percent
increase in caloric expenditure and
a similar rise in oxygen consumption
when compared with regualr
walking
The poles allow you to thurst off
the ground behind you. They help
propel you forward, and they help
you move faster while you are utilizing
more muscle groups in your
body.
This low impact workout helps
decrease stress on the joints while
the poles aid in stability and balance.
This is one of the reasons
Nordic walking is becoming more
popular everyday. It helps you lose
weight and it is injury-free with few
risks.
So if you are looking for a little
extra-curricular activity this summer,
I recommend this because it
will keep you in shape, it’s not hard,
and it only takes a short time to do.

at the Out-of-Town Park, Ms.
the festivities.
"We did a culture activity when
3 different groups danced. We
had little ones from ages 4
through 8 and a second group,
ages 10-12 and a 3rd group,
who were Hispanic girls from
FHS. We also had a second
part where we tried to raise
money by selling typical
Mexican food, and the girls from
FHS did that, also we had a raffle
where we gave away a CD
for $45. Ms. Chapin won one
prize," said Ms. Barbosa.
"We did two folklore dances
from Mexico in the morning and
the afternoon, and they did a
good job," said Ms. Barbosa
Next year they plan to do the
same thing but Ms. Barbosa
would like to see more
"I think it's a lot of work and
needs more involvement
because it was really hard for
much better, we will plan it
from the beginning of next
year, we need to look for the
time to prepare, we will get
parents involved, and we also
want to involved all the
Spanish classes, not just the
Hispanic students," said Ms.
Barbosa.
"We will do something for
the school and also for the
community; we want to get 10
minutes so the girls can
dance in front of the whole school.
Next year I would get as many
people as possible, especially the
Spanish students, the students
need to learn more about Cinco
de Mayo," said Ms. Barbosa.
"We will start a fundraiser at the
beginning of next year so we have
everything ready by May, It was
the first time and it was a great
experience and I got to know the
students much better and I established
relationships with parents,
for me that was very important,"
movies this summer like Harry
Potter, Shrek, 300, and Pirates of
coach a little bit of softball. I want to
do some camping and take my kids
to the lake or Wild Waters,” says
“I am going to go to my home in
California and spend some time
there. I will probably camp a little
“I am going to ride my motorcycle,
On March 25th, 2007 at 10:14 in the
Finals
are just
around
the corner. If you think
about it, they are just a few
days away. This means it is
time for you to review. Mrs.
says, “Everything! - Really
don’t stress because you
already either know it or
you don’t.”
For all of the freshman
who are worried that you
are all going to fail your
finals then don’t, because if
you study really really hard
and you paid attention in
class then you will pass
them so stop worrying and
getting stressed out, Just
keep on studying. Mr.
In fact, they’re remembering
the teachers are even done
with their finals. Teachers are
Studying for the finals are the
most helpful thing you can do
to make sure that you know
what is on them.
Mrs. Rampy says, “Both
review games, buzzers, review
think of.” Also Mrs. Ericksen
said, “Both review games, and
study guides.” Same thing for
Mr. Jackson, “Both –Depends
on the time and the class.”
Finals are just a couple days
away. That means that all of
you students need to start
buckling down.
to three awards. They are
given by departments (English,
math, etc…) and there’s also
some military and athletic
awards given.
The students from Fernley, Fallon, and
about 20 students in each group.
The students then went into their respected
softball headed to Las Vegas May 17-19.
Within those three day's Fernley won
their first State Softball title since 1985.
Their first game Thursday night was
against Pahrump Valley High School.
The team beat Pahrump 10-2. In the first
inning Frances Estrada was walked by
Fernley Girls brought home a 10-2 win!
Whitney's single. Whitney scored on a
the 3rd inning. Sam Rawbeau hit a 1st
out double. The deciding factor in the
game was Sev Johnson's three home
runs.
On Friday the team played Lowry.
Jayme King hit a single to left. King
scored top of the first and in the 4th
innings scored a home run. Sev
The Vaquero Boy's took the fourth seed!
The Fernley High Baseball
team took a hard loss to Quincy!
But they left the field with high
hopes of winning their upcoming
matches with the Dayton Dust
Devils.
The Dayton Dust Devils have
proven to be a very strong team
defeating Yerington twice to finish
the Northern 3A with a very
impressive score of 15-1, handing
them the number one seed. While
the Vaquero Boys stay close
behind walking away with the
number four seed with an end
score of 10-6. While Lowry and
Spring Creek also took home
seeds and will compete along
with the Vaqueros and the Dust
Devils, the two winning teams
between the four will go on to
compete against each other in
the northern 3A's State
Championship.
Although the Vaqueros Boy's
took a hard loss they managed to
play a great game! Zack Kumler
pitched triumphant into the 6th
inning, only to be removed as his
pitch score became too high! He
was replaced with another strong
player as Ryan Simpson took the
plate. The game was at a breathless
tie, that soon was broken as
Johnson hit the winning home run. The
ending score was 3-2 heading the girls
to the championship game on Sat. In the
championship game Fernley scored once
in the first inning. They had five hits in
the 3rd and scoring three times. Lowry
had nothing Fernley scored six more
times in the 3rd having a perfect game
until the 5th inning when Lowry scored
twice. Fernley brought home the big win
with a final score of 10-2.
the opposing team scored the
deciding three runs, taking the
game home.
While the team as a whole
played great, Travis McCurry was
the only player to finish the game
with several hits completing a triumphant
day, walking off the field
with three hits.
The Vaqueros seem to be
falling into a repeated pattern,
taking fourth place for a second
year.
They hope for a better turn out
as they play hard and prepare to
take their best game to the field.
Dodge ball!
The dodge ball tournament
on May 21, 2007
was a "good" one.
Even though most of
the student teams
were mostly guys
there was one brave
girl who played- Jessi
Robison.
During the games
there were problems,
like if a player played
on two teams or if the
official called a shot
fair or not, but the outcome
was all the
same.
"The Puma's" won the
tournament. It was a
hard game and they
fought for what they
earned. So congrates
to "The Puma's" for
their well deserved victory
against the students
and the teachers!
