Come face-toface with the awesome spectacle of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes. Learn about scientists’ groundbreaking quests to understand what triggers these extreme, and potentially disastrous, occurrences. For a powerful experience, pair this film with a visit to the Changing Earth exhibit. Coral Reef Adventure All ages Join ocean explorers and underwater filmmakers Howard and Michele Hall on a real-life expedition! The Halls guide viewers to the islands and sun-drenched waters of the South Pacific to document, in the biggest and best film format that exists, the health and beauty of coral reefs. DEMONSTRATION THEATER Carnival of Machines Grades 3-12 Through this dynamic live show, students will discover that an object does not have to be complicated to be a machine – it just needs to perform work. We will put various simple machines into action on stage, exploring the concept of work and the basic physics of motion. Where does our weather come from, and what factors make it sunny or blustery? We will make a cloud, explore thunder and lightning, and even create a twister on stage! Chemistry Show Grades 6-12 The chemistry show uses exciting demonstrations to give students a firsthand look at why we study chemistry and how chemists improve our daily lives.
