Cotler discusses current<br />

issues in the world<br />

In a brief and an informal press<br />

conference at Pusha Restaurant on <strong>June</strong><br />

9, Irwin Cotler, MP for Town of Mount<br />

Royal and a Liberal Party's special adviser<br />

on Human Rights and International<br />

Justice, spoke before a small crowd about<br />

current issues in the world.<br />

Following his discussion on<br />

health care, violence against women and<br />

elderly, Cotler assured the crowd that the<br />

riding in Mount Royal maintains its<br />

credibility - culturally, territorially and<br />

socially. On a more serious note, Cotler,<br />

who introduced the legislation that will<br />

hold Iran accountable for the killing of<br />

when they met Justin Trudeau .They<br />

believe that he is the person who will<br />

change the human conditions in Canada.<br />

Updates on Ronald Santos<br />

W. G. Quiambao<br />

Ronald is the son of Reuben<br />

Santos, former president of the <strong>Filipino</strong>-<br />

Canadian Tennis Association of Montreal.<br />

A sociology and an anthropology graduate<br />

from Loyola University and owner of<br />

TRICAN Multimedia Solutions, Ronald was<br />

featured as Personality of the Month last<br />

<strong>June</strong> 2012.<br />

From April 2011 to May <strong>2013</strong>, he<br />

worked as civilian consultant for Coffey<br />

consultant International Development<br />

based in London, England on a project<br />

called Helmand Monitoring and Evaluation<br />

Programme (HMEP), which evaluates the<br />

effectiveness of the activities of the<br />

Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team<br />

(HPRT). Because he was stationed at the<br />

H-PRT in Lash Kar Gah, Helmand<br />

Province, Afghanistan between 2011 and<br />

2012, he received two service medals, one<br />

from the North American Treaty<br />

Organization (NATO) and one from the<br />

United Kingdom. The Medal for ISAF<br />

(Afghanistan) is for supporting NATO<br />

operations in Afghanistan . The Civilian<br />

Service Medal (Afghanistan) is awarded by<br />

the British government to civilians (and<br />

some members of the UK Armed Forces)<br />

to recognize service since November 19,<br />

2001 in the transition to democracy in<br />

Afghanistan.<br />

The Helmand PRT is part of the<br />

North American Treaty Organization<br />

(NATO) international Security Assistance<br />

Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. Headed by<br />

British diplomat Cationa Laing, it has over<br />

100 civilian and military core staff, mainly<br />

from the UK, Afghanistan, Denmark,<br />

Estonia and the USA. . It is funded by the<br />

UK, USA Danish and Estonian<br />

governments . The Provincial<br />

Ronaldo Santos (center) is flanked by his<br />

Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Helmand<br />

coordinates international stabilization and<br />

development work across Helmand,<br />

working with the Government of<br />

Afghanistan. the ISAF elements in the<br />

Province partnered with their Afghanistan<br />

National Security Force (ANSF)<br />

counterparts and international donors.<br />

Ronald is working on a similar<br />

project for the Australian Government in<br />

Urugan Province, Afghanistan . He also<br />

works on a Peace Building and<br />

Governance in Islamabad, Pakistan.<br />
