The <strong>AZ</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Association</strong> Young<br />
Professionals Committee had a<br />
successful year in 20<strong>08</strong>! Highlights of<br />
the year included:<br />
• Facilitating technical presentations<br />
geared toward young professionals at<br />
the Annual Conference and hosting a<br />
Technical Luncheon Seminar Series on<br />
Industry Approaches to Sustainability<br />
• Providing networking opportunities<br />
for area young professionals and<br />
students<br />
• Organizing the annual Bowl-a-Thon<br />
and Kickball Game<br />
• Supporting university student groups<br />
at Arizona State University, University<br />
of Arizona, Northern Arizona<br />
University, and Gateway Community<br />
College<br />
• Organizing the Fresh Ideas contest<br />
and selecting a winner to represent<br />
Arizona at the AWWA Annual<br />
Conference in Atlanta, Georgia<br />
• Selecting and recognizing <strong>AZ</strong> <strong>Water</strong><br />
<strong>Association</strong> scholarship recipients<br />
• Reaching out to elementary and<br />
middle school students through the<br />
Engineer's Day at the Arizona Science<br />
Center and the Future Cities<br />
Competition<br />
• Sponsoring selected Arizona YPs to<br />
attend the national YP Summit at<br />
WEFMAX in Austin, Texas<br />
• Supporting the local <strong>Water</strong> for People<br />
fundraising efforts<br />

Committee Update<br />

us plan our spring event, silent auction<br />
at the <strong>AZ</strong> <strong>Water</strong> annual conference,<br />

Sonoran Spa Event<br />
Every Other Month - Tucson<br />
The Sonoran Spa., located at Westward<br />
Look Resort in Tucson, <strong>AZ</strong> will be<br />
holding fundraising events for <strong>Water</strong><br />
<strong>For</strong> People every month starting in<br />
February. Spa services will be provided<br />
on a specified day in exchange for a $50<br />
per person donation that would directly<br />
benefit <strong>Water</strong> <strong>For</strong> People. Advance<br />
registration is required, please contact<br />
the spa directly at (520) 297-1151.<br />
4th Annual Silent Auction<br />
May 6th and 7th – Glendale, <strong>AZ</strong><br />
<strong>Water</strong> <strong>For</strong> People will once again hold<br />
their Silent Auction in the Exhibitor<br />
Hall at the <strong>AZ</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Annual<br />
Conference, starting at the opening of<br />
the conference on Wednesday, May 6th<br />
and ending at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday,<br />
May 7th. Donations of auction items<br />
will be very gratefully accepted.<br />

Reuse Committee<br />
Happenings<br />
John P. Kmiec, Reuse Committee Chair,<br />
Tucson <strong>Water</strong><br />
The year 20<strong>08</strong> was a year of transitions<br />
with the Reuse Committee. Half way<br />
during the course of the year, our<br />
Chairperson, Jon Risinger, decided to<br />
take a position with an engineering firm<br />
in New Orleans. We wish him well.<br />
Throughout the year, the Reuse<br />
Committee has met to continue the<br />
advancement of the Reclaimed <strong>Water</strong><br />
Site Inspection Program. <strong>For</strong> those of<br />
you who are not aware, the Reuse<br />
Committee has been working on various<br />
issues that will eventually assist utilities<br />
in providing guidance and developing
