PROGRAMS



• Total funding $125,000. Enough to rebate 3-5 projects. 

• $4 Per Watt up to $40,000 per location for a 10 kW system. 

• System sized to match customer’s average consumption. 


•Municipal , Commercial and Residential properties are eligible. 


PROGRAMS

• January 28 th 2010 - Village of Freeport and NYPA sign a grant 


agreement. 

•February 2010 - Specification and evaluation criteria are 

developed. 


•February 22, 2010 to March 26, 2010 - Letters of interest from 

Freeport customers are requested. 

•March 10, 2010 to April 10, 2010 - Potential sites are evaluated 

for design and efficiency criteria. 


•June to August 2010 - Systems are installed by qualified 

installers. 


PROGRAMS


•A properly designed and installed 10 kW Solar PV system can 

produce approximately 12,184 kWh / year on Long Island. 

•At Village of Freeport Electric rates this equals an annual 

savings of around $1,340 per year. 

•A properly designed and installed 5 kW Solar PV system can 

produce approximately 6,092 kWh / year on Long Island. 

•At Village of Freeport Electric rates this equals an annual 

savings of around $670 per year.

•Once installed, they are virtually maintenance free. NYPA 

requires a 20 year

•$6.50 to $7.50 / Watt average installed cost on Long Island. 

•10 kW installed system will cost $65,000 to $75,000 before 


rebates. 

NYPA Incentive $4 per Watt = $40,000. 

New York State Income tax credit (if eligible) $5,000 maximum. 

Federal Income tax credit (if eligible) 30% of after rebate costs. $7,500 to 

$10,500 based on actual eligible costs. 

Check with your tax professional to verify your eligibility for tax credits. 



• A customer investment of between $6,125 and $35,000 is 

required to take advantage of this program. Tax Credits are not 

guaranteed and are the customer’s responsibility to apply for. 

PROGRAMS


•Un-obstructed southern exposure. 

•Limited shadow shading. 


• Trees, buildings and structures can reduce the system’s operating 

efficiency. 

•1500 Sq. Ft. of available area for the installation of solar panels. 

(10 kW system) 

• This is equivalent to 47 4x8 sheets of plywood or 

• 10 average parking spaces or 

• 4 school buses parked side by side. 



• Flat roofs must be less than 5 years old to be considered. 

PROGRAMS 

• Shingled roofs must be within the first 3 rd of their warranted 

life to be considered, i.e., 10 years on a 30 year roof. 

• Ground mount installations should be relatively flat and 

protected from physical damage by vehicles.


• 5 - 10 kW Maximum– matched to premise electric load on an 

annual basis. 


•Existing electrical service must accept socket type metering 

equipment. 

•Existing electrical service must be free from violations. 

•Installation must meet all State and Local codes. 


•Electrical connections must be performed by a licensed Village 

of Freeport Electrician. 


• Location must be approved by the State Historic Preservation 

Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

• Puts Solar Electric in reach of 

interested residents. 

• Some locations may not work. 

• Reduced electric bills and 

low interest financing will help

PROGRAMS 

And a brief description of why you are interested in installing a solar 

photovoltaic system on your house/business.


Interested customers will be contacted for a thorough 

site evaluation. Each location will be analyzed and 

graded based on orientation, shading, customer load 

profile and anticipated solar output. If the location 

qualifies, the customer will be asked to provide 

documentation supporting their ability to finance the 

unrebated portion of the system and proof that they 

own the location. 




Funds are limited- eligible applications will be selected 

to receive the rebate PROGRAMS 

via a lottery drawing to be held at 

Village Hall.
