LOIS E. NEUFELD<br />

Lois Neufeld of Overland Park, Kan., died Oct. 31, 1999, in the crash of Egypt Air 990 while on a<br />

tour to visit Egypt and Israel. She was born near Hanston, Kan., Feb. 4, 1930, and graduated<br />

from Hanston High School, then Bethel College and its School of Nursing. She became a nurse<br />

practitioner and earned an M.S.N. degree from the University of Kansas. She spent her professional<br />

career working in emergency departments, first at the KU Medical Center then at the Kansas City<br />

Veterans Hospital, from which she retired in 1995.<br />

She was a member of Hanston Mennonite Church all her life. She will be remembered for her<br />

curious mind and love of music. She emphasized fitness and exercise and had a zest for travel,<br />

which took her to six of the seven continents and ultimately led to her untimely death. She will be<br />

remembered most of all for her care and compassion for others, not only in her career as a nurse but<br />

also for family and friends, for whom she was unfailingly there when needed. She leaves a huge,<br />

aching hole in the lives of her relatives and many friends.<br />

A memorial service at Hanston Mennonite Church will be delayed until late January to allow absent<br />

family members to return from Cambodia.<br />

Marvin, the sixth of seven children, grew to manhood in the parental home one mile west of Hanston, where he<br />
