<strong>Fourth</strong> <strong>Church</strong> is grateful to the Children’s and Youth Choirs for their music<br />

leadership throughout the school year and particularly to seniors Laurel Doak,<br />

Jolisha Johnson, and McCormick Sinclair for their years <strong>of</strong> commitment<br />

to <strong>Fourth</strong> <strong>Church</strong> choirs.<br />

Guest preacher Lillian Daniel has been the Senior Minister <strong>of</strong> the First Congregational<br />

<strong>Church</strong> <strong>of</strong> Glen Ellyn since 2004 and is the author <strong>of</strong> Tell It Like It Is: Reclaiming<br />

the Practice <strong>of</strong> Testimony and co-author <strong>of</strong> This Odd and Wondrous Calling.<br />

We are honored to welcome her to the <strong>Fourth</strong> <strong>Church</strong> pulpit.<br />

The text <strong>of</strong> this morning’s opening hymn was written by Folliet Sandford Pierpont<br />

(1835–1917) “one day in late spring near his native city <strong>of</strong> Bath, England, when<br />

violets and primrose were in full bloom and all the earth seemed to rejoice.”<br />

The <strong>bulletin</strong> cover photo depicts the courtyard fountain as photographed from<br />

the third floor <strong>of</strong> Parish House. A 1913 gift from the associate architect <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Michigan Avenue property, Howard Van Doren Shaw, the Children’s Fountain,<br />

as it was designated, features carvings <strong>of</strong> various animals as well as the text <strong>of</strong><br />

Isaiah 11:9 and Habbakuk 2:14.<br />
