Fourth Church is grateful to the Children’s and Youth Choirs for their music
leadership throughout the school year and particularly to seniors Laurel Doak,
Jolisha Johnson, and McCormick Sinclair for their years of commitment
to Fourth Church choirs.
Guest preacher Lillian Daniel has been the Senior Minister of the First Congregational
Church of Glen Ellyn since 2004 and is the author of Tell It Like It Is: Reclaiming
the Practice of Testimony and co-author of This Odd and Wondrous Calling.
We are honored to welcome her to the Fourth Church pulpit.
The text of this morning’s opening hymn was written by Folliet Sandford Pierpont
(1835–1917) “one day in late spring near his native city of Bath, England, when
violets and primrose were in full bloom and all the earth seemed to rejoice.”
The bulletin cover photo depicts the courtyard fountain as photographed from
the third floor of Parish House. A 1913 gift from the associate architect of the
Michigan Avenue property, Howard Van Doren Shaw, the Children’s Fountain,
as it was designated, features carvings of various animals as well as the text of
Isaiah 11:9 and Habbakuk 2:14.
