KHNURE is a modern education and research 

center which shares its treasuries of knowledge, 

universal and national scientific and cultural values 

with young people not only from the Eastern regions, 

but also from the whole Ukraine and many other 

countries of the world. Scientific and technical 

potential and educational research resources of our 

University in the areas of radio electronics, 

telecommunications, informatics and computing make 

it unparalleled in Ukraine and CIS countries. 

Scientific achievements of KNURE are wellknown 

both in Ukraine and abroad due to its 

graduates and successful research schools led by the 

reputed scientists. Substantial contribution made by 

the scientists of KNURE and, particularly, by Professor 

B.L. Kashcheyev, Honored Science and Technology 

Worker of Ukraine, and by Professor Yu.I. Voloshchuk 

into the near space research and creation of the 

world's most complete catalogue of cosmic bodies, 

was recognized by the International Astronomical 

Union by naming three small planets "KhNURE", 

"Kashcheyev" and "Voloshchuk". KNURE is the only 

University in Ukraine which has received the world 

recognition of such magnitude. 

The scientists of the University work fruitfully 

on the implementation of national programs in space 

research, information systems development, 

nondestructive testing and technical diagnostics. 

The University actively cooperates with 

partners abroad, namely, in Bulgaria, Belarus, Great 

Britain, Georgia, Estonia, the People's Republic of 

China, Mexico, Germany, Russia, USA, Finland, 

France, Japan and other countries. This creates 

favorable conditions for steady development of 

research schools and challenging areas of science. 

Such cooperation is vital for the University's integration into the European and global higher 

education system. The cooperation is primarily oriented to the participation of the University 

teams in the fundamental and applied research funded by the European Union. The scientific 

cooperation goes hand-in-hand with the improvement of senior students and postgraduate 

students training owing to the joint projects with well-known companies and European 

universities (currently KNURE has about 50 long-term contracts with foreign companies and 

higher education institutions). Undergraduate and postgraduate students get job placement 

grants, educational grants and participate in conferences and seminars abroad. 

KNURE was one of the first universities in Ukraine which 

adopted the practice of coordinating its curriculum with western 

universities and within the framework of the completed Tempusproject 

developed methods of European Credit Transfer System (ЕCTS) 

and effectively applies them for implementing international educational 

programs under which students obtain two diplomas of higher 

education (Ukrainian and European ones). 

Due to the University's significant achievements, both in the 

past and at present, and its clear vision of future development course 

KNURE found its place among the famous unique Ukrainian centers of 

scientific and technological progress.

At the moment the library fund comprises 

over 700 thousand copies of printed publications 

and unpublished documents. Access to the 

library databases: “Electronic Catalogue” and 

“Electronic Library” (more than 20000 new etexts) 

is organized for students and teaching 

staff of KNURE. There is an electronic reading 

hall for students’ independent work where 

students can use local electronic resources of 

the library and University, collection of 

electronic publications on CDs, Ukrainian legal 

database, they have access to the Internet for 

searching information for educational purposes and the electronic journal of New York 

University: American Journal of Mathematics edited by “The Johns Hopkins University 

Press”. 

The development of new information technologies and their active introduction into 

the library work, qualitative and effective renewal of library funds and keeping electronic 

resources (websites, databases) of the library in a good condition enable to develop the 

system of virtual services for distant users (part-time students, distance education 

students and students of the department of postgraduate studies) with the help of the 

virtual reference service and electronic delivery of documents through the library website.

The Information- Analytical Center “Career” organizes the annual interregional job 

fair “Young Specialist of the XXI Century”. At this fair the enterprises hold multimedia 

presentations, organize round tables, conclude agreements, explain how to organize new 

bases for students’ training, provide trainings in job search techniques and in writing CVs 

for students. 

The Information-Analytical 

Center “Career” works closely with 

employers at establishing relations 

and employment of the University 

graduates. For this purpose the 

companies organize and develop 

special optional courses where nearly 

100 students have the possibility to 

improve their level of knowledge and 

skills; teachers of the University have 

the possibility to attend the advanced 

training courses in the companies. 

Academic competitions are organized 

together with the enterprises, which 

give the students opportunities to get 

financial awards from the companies. 

Specialists of the University developed the distributed system for employment 

process support which permits deans and heads of the departments to monitor continually 

the employment process and analyze the organization of students’ training. 

KNURE was one of the first higher education establishments in Kharkiv region to 

become a member of the Association “IT of Ukraine”, which connects the graduates of 

KNURE working in Ukrainian with IT-companies and helps them with employment. 

In September 2008 the educational laboratory “Business Incubator” was organized 

under the Information and Analysis Center “Career” within the strategic program of 

partnership relations development between KNURE and enterprises-employers and also for 

the purpose of making joint innovation projects together with representatives of business. 

The work of the laboratory is aimed at state support of students’ innovation projects from 

the stage of the idea formation to its practical realization.

There are over 1600 computers at the University. 

The staff of the Centre pays much attention to computer support of the educational 

process, giving classes to students who study for the second diploma, students of the 

Centre for Pre-University Studies, trainees of the Centre for continuing education and 

advanced training.

Technical facilities of the Information and Computing Centre meet modern 

requirements on the basis of their characteristics. The University network is being 

upgraded all the time, which ensures qualitative testing for students, organizing 

educational competitions, presentations, conferences, seminars, etc. Moreover, the 

advanced technologies, using optical communication lines which are being introduced, will 

permit to connect local networks of the hostels into a single local University network.

In 2005 “The Centre of Information Systems and Technologies of KNURE” was 

organized to create the single information space of KNURE for integration of the existing

of quality of specialists’ training at the level of international requirements; carrying out 

fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of modern information technologies 

of the distributed data and knowledge processing with the aim of creating single

Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics maintains close scientific 

relationship with foreign partners in the field of international cooperation. Scientists of the 

University continue to establish good relationship with universities and other scientific 

institutions of many countries, among which are: Bulgaria, Byelorussia, Great Britain, 

Greece, Georgia, Estonia, Chinese People’s Republic, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Serbia, 

USA, Finland, France, Japan, etc. 

Cooperation in the scientific sphere is accompanied by improvement of training for 

students of senior years of studies and post-graduates thanks to the joint projects with 

well-known companies, namely: ALDEC the Source for EDA Solutions (USA); Vdata 

Software-Entwicklung (Germany); Jyvaskyla University (Finland); Wessex Technical 

Institute (Great Britain) and other European Universities (more than 50 agreements have 

been concluded between KNURE, foreign companies and higher educational institutions). 

KNURE continues its work on previously developed projects and makes new prestigious 

international projects.

The Center of Distance Education Technology deals with the following aspects: 

It masters new informational technologies to be implemented in the 

educational process: pilot projects of new training courses and laboratory work, samples of 

using virtual reality in education; 

Seminars for teachers of Higher Educational Institutions organized by the 

laboratory have attained a higher level of an annual international scientific and 

methodological conference called “Education and Virtuality”. The representatives of 

engineering companies working in the field of distance education, experts from Ukraine, 

Russia, Latvia, Tajikistan, Great Britain, Poland, Finland and other countries participate in 

it. 

We study problems and perspectives of the global informational society, virtual 

educational institutions, telecommunications, teaching aids preparation for distance 

education, and computerized testing of students’ knowledge.

The Center is set up according to the University project and it has been working for 

the last 9 years. Its goal is to raise the quality of students’ education: 

Modern digital devices are at work at laboratory and practical classes; 

A creative and research and technical group of students is functioning. 

The main Centre section is the apparatus studio block. The Center serves different 

problems: 

Making video films in general and special subjects, converting educational 

films of the past years into modern video record format; 

Developing a base of slide-lectures of the leading teachers; 

Adaptation of foreign educational films to our educational process, making 

information video films for the TV and information system of the University’s silver screen, 

making the multimedia products for interactive practical training simulators are the main 

tasks of the Centre.

Nowadays evaluation of education quality is becoming more urgent. Computer 

testing lets us check the level of students’ skills and knowledge at a short time, obtaining 

the impartial assessment and entire statistics processing.

Physical training and sports play a key role in bringing up future specialists. Our 

University has all the necessary facilities for it: four gyms, including a fitness center, a 

shooting gallery and sports grounds. There are 30 sections where our students can master 

their sports skills. 

University teams in boxing, martial arts, sports aerobics, power lifting and sports 

games are the strongest not only in Kharkiv but all over Ukraine. There are over 80 

Masters of Sport and World Class Athletes among the students of our University. During the 

academic year the students participate in different kinds of championships: group 

championship, year championship, School championship, University championship, city 

championship, and also national, European and world ones.

The Students Senate is a student self-government institution of Kharkiv National 

University of Radio Electronics. It was founded in March, 2004 at the constituent 

conference of students of KNURE.

performances at the University Students 

Club: a ballroom dance group, a musical 

comedy group, a vocal group, a group of 

folk, modern, pop and sports dance; a 

vocal band; a group of the amateur song; 

a variety art group, a guitar band, an 

instrumental band; a group of variety art 

sketches; a drama theatre; a banduraplayer 

band; a band of folk instruments; a 

choir; teams of panel games; a group of 

intellectual games and many others. Most 

of the groups are winners of various 

festivals and competitions, some of them 

have got top ranking prizes. A lot of 

traditions were established in the 

Students Club. They are carefully carried 

on, increased and followed from 

generation to generation. The Students 

Club makes a great contribution to 

bringing up the youth, creating a 

harmonious, intelligent personality of 

young specialists.

The Preparatory Faculty for Foreign Citizens (PF) was established on 2nd January 

1992 and is licensed by the Ministry of Education to train 300 foreign citizens a year. 

The Faculty prepares international students for further education in the fields of 

Engineering, Medicine and Biology, Economics and Humanities in higher education 

institutions of Ukraine, and also prepares interpreters of Russian (Ukrainian) in the field of 

Foreign Economic Affairs and provides job placement for teachers of Russian (Ukrainian). 

The Faculty consists of 2 departments: 

- Department of Language Training 

teaches students the Russian and Ukrainian 

languages; 

- Department of Sciences provides preuniversity 

training in the following academic 

subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, 

Informatics, Chemistry, Drawing, Country 

Studies, Economic Geography and Essentials of 

Economics. 

The Departments have modern facilities 

for all kinds of classes, including audio-video 

equipment, modern computer classrooms. 

All classes are taught by a highly 

qualified teaching staff, having long experience of working abroad and at the Preparatory 

Faculty. 

Since its foundation the Faculty has prepared over 2500 students from 34 countries 

who mastered academic subjects. 

Students of the Preparatory faculty live in a well-equipped youth hostel in the centre 

of Kharkiv sharing the room with 1-2.

The Centre of Teaching in Foreign 

Languages was founded in 1999, and 

about 250 students from 23 countries 

are studying here at present. Almost 140 

students have been awarded Master’s 

and Bachelor’s degrees since then. 

The most professional and 

experienced lecturers work in the Centre 

where current technology and equipment 

are widely used. The Centre cooperates 

with universities from different countries.

The Faculty was founded in 1963 in Kharkov 

Institute of Mining Engineering, Automation and 

Computer Engineering as the Faculty of Computer 

Technology. After the Institute renaming to Kharkov 

Institute of Radio Electronics in 1966 the Faculty began training engineers in the 

specialties: Electronic Computing Machines (Computers), Applied Mathematics and 

Construction of Computing Equipment. Since 1995 

the Department has received a new name. 

Educational process is provided in 6 modern 

laboratories and more than 200 computers are 

used in the educational process. Students of the 

Faculty are also trained abroad in England, France, 

Germany, the United States and Poland on the 

programs of the leading universities. The Faculty 

has taught more than 300 students from foreign 

countries. Training is carried out in the Russian, 

Ukrainian and English languages.

The Scientific and Research Centre of Information Security Problems refers to 

scientific centers of the Department. Research area of the Center is mathematical methods, 

models and records in cryptology. There is a research work laboratory of information secu 

rity problems in the center. Research areas of the laboratory are designing technology, 

creation and implementation of the public key infrastructure; mathematical methods, 

models and records in cryptography. The Department includes the Scientific and Research 

Centre «Information Technology», where the scientific and research work is conducted 

depending on the Department’s majors. 

Besides, the teaching staff and research fellows of the Department created complex 

information security systems for the Administrative Department of the President, National 

Space Agency of Ukraine, Ukrsotsbank, National joint-stock company «Naftogas of 

Ukraine» etc, whose experimental and research patterns are used in the academic studies

Two scientific centers function at the Department: Kharkiv Recourse and Operation 

Grid-Centre. Research areas of the Center are: creation of highly qualified national gridinfrastructure 

with corresponding service for giving young scientists of our country an 

opportunity to collaborate fruitfully in the European Research Area (ERA) and promote the 

establishment of information society economics by means of scientific concepts 

implementation (GRID) and some more considerable scientific supplements which are used 

in the GRID environment.

The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Management (AММ) was found in July,1995 

according to the order № 67 dated by 12.07.95. The Faculty was separated from out from 

the structure of the Faculty of Computer Facilities in connection with the necessity to 

increase the number of experts and expanding a spectrum of the specialties in the 

directions “Applied Mathematics” and “Informational Systems in Management”. 

In 1995 the AMM Faculty consisted 

of the Applied Mathematics Department,

Science Department joined the Faculty in 

2001 and in 2003, respectively.

Informatics is, in the first place, related to

processing and recognizing images and

The research laboratory “Modeling of Economic Processes in Power Engineering” was 

founded at the Department. Its objective is to do perspective research at the University by 

priority guidelines, implement scientific achievements into training, perform applied works 

in the field of developing conceptual and programmed principles of functioning of 

enterprises under market relations; develop scientific and methodological framework and 

software for procedures of modeling economic processes in power engineering. 

There are teachers at the Department who have considerable practical work 

experience in industry, banking, stock market, insurance, bookkeeping and audit.

forming the market mechanism of administering market entities under the present-day 

economic conditions; optimization of the PLC corporate governance system; theory and

Almost all the curricula of professions at the Faculty are agreed with the European 

curriculum and meet «Intelligent Decision-Support Systems», «Software engineering», 

«Information technologies», «Information Systems», etc. 

More than 10 years the Faculty is an active participant in the joint European Master's 

programs of international exchange of students from the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland) 

and the Vrije Amsterdam (Netherlands). 73 students went to training, pre-diploma practice

Bondarenko Mykhailo Fedorovych 

Since 2007 the CS Department has established partnership relations with colleagues 

from the Institute of Mathematics and System Engineering of Vakho University (Sweden) and 

concluded an agreement on student special purpose training in the field of developing Business 

Intelligence System funded by leading foreign and home firms partners. According to the given 

agreement the Computer Science Faculty students have an opportunity to learn training 

courses of the given trend on a full-time or distance education basis. The classes in the distance

course “Business Intelligence” for the fourth and fifth year students and for postgraduate 

students began on the 3rd of September, 2007. The lectures are delivered by professors and 

specialists of the leading companies in Sweden, Denmark, the USA and by the academic staff of 

the CS Department. Since 2008 the program of a two-party Master’s Degree has been 

implemented. 

There is the Research and Training Center of Mathematical Modeling at the Department. 

The Center includes two laboratories: the research laboratory “Modeling of Intelligence 

Systems” (the research areas are the development of mathematical models of human 

intelligence mechanisms (eye-sight, hearing, perception, recognition and so on); the 

development of a formal instrument of logical algebra, linguistic algebra and a logic support 

system of designing new information technologies and a research laboratory “Scholastic 

Systems Modeling ( the research area is scholastic analysis in economics and engineering). 

The research and training laboratory “Computer-Aided Software System”. The research 

area is modern integration technologies of heterogeneous distributed sources of data and 

software quality paradigm of data processing of computer-aided systems; computer-aided 

technologies of creation of specialized digital libraries; software means of computer-aided 

formation of a training process information base; information technologies of distance learning 

and electronic commerce. 

The research and training laboratory “Information Technologies in Educational Systems 

and Computer Vision”. The research area is development of intelligent learning systems and 

systems for developing models of qualitative knowledge control, methods and recognition 

algorithms for biometric systems; development of analysis and recognition methods of visual 

data for medical diagnosing and prediction systems; development of methods for analysis and 

context scene recognition in pictures in real time application for systems of video monitoring, 

visual identification and registration of objects, systems of medical monitoring; software 

development for analysis and recognition of visual data in various applications.

Terziyan Vagan Yakovlevych 

The Department supervises the International project «Ontologic Information Web-Portal 

of Managing National Educational and Scientific Resources». The project objective is to create a 

flexible protected web-oriented system of managing educational and scientific resources. Such 

a system will make it possible to obtain quickly current and precise information about any

educational and scientific resource on-line. The ontological base must provide a handy system 

of navigation and data cohesiveness. 

The bilateral agreement on cooperation in science and technology was concluded 

between the Department of Artificial Intelligence of KNURE and a subdivision of Agora Center of 

Yuvyaskyula University (Finland). Besides, the agreement was concluded with the French 

Institute of Information Technologies and Telecommunications (ITIN) on the joint integrated 

English-speaking training program for students whose majors are Intelligent Systems of 

Decision-Making (ISDM) (KNURE, Ukraine) and «Mobile Computing» (the Institute of 

Information Technologies and Telecommunications (ITIN, France)). 

The Department developed a scheme on making joint projects by the students of KNURE 

(majoring in ISDM) and ITIN (France). Within the scheme the workshops and experimental 

student seminars are run in the form of teleconferences. Besides, the defense of real 

commercial projects is done. 

The Research Laboratory «Metaintelligence» functions at the Department. Its research 

area is management of knowledge and metaknowledge in the systems of distributed artificial 

intelligence; intelligent data processing and computer-aided learning; intelligent webapplications; 

web-mining.

Dumin Oleksiy Zakharovych 

The Department is developing a guideline of national state formation, ethnogenesis, 

confessions, formation and activities of state, culturological, educational, political organizations 

of the Ukrainian nation, theoretical aspects of culturology. At present the objective of the 

Department is to introduce future specialists to scientific analysis directed to provide 

independent comprehension of the regularities of historical concepts, government institutions, 

political processes, generalization and systematization of culturological knowledge under the 

conditions of forming the Ukrainian state, national and cultural renaissance. 

The main efforts of the teaching staff of the Department are concentrated on the high 

quality training based upon the module rating training system. 

One of the priorities of the work of the Department is the educational work. The literary 

studio "Chebrets", the historical and archaeographic society "Svitotch", the culturological group 

"Lyubystok" function on the basis of the Department. The festivals devoted to T. G. Shevchenko 

became a tradition. Conferences are held which are dedicated to giving the honour to the 

outstanding figures of Ukrainian history and culture. The Department organizes on a regular 

basis the International P.Yatsyk competition of experts in the Ukrainian language, days of the 

native language, which contribute to the popularization of the modern Ukrainian literary 

language.

Our life can not be imagined without the latest telecommunication technologies. 

Mobile and satellite communications, Internet, television, packages (Triple, Quad, Multy 

Play) have become an integral part of each of us. 

The Faculty provides training for highly skilled managers and technical support staff 

of telecommunications for the most dynamic industry in Ukraine. 

For the last 5 years scientific and educational base of the Faculty was completely 

modernized. A piece of modern telecommunications network (WAN, MAN, LAN) with the 

inclusion of all major elements and new generations of technologies (satellite, mobile 

internet, Skype, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, 

GigaEthernet, FMC, IMS, SOA, etc.) was 

created. 

One of the main objectives of the 

Faculty consists in professional and 

intellectual development of students. 

Therefore, in addition to studying, 

students have unlimited opportunities for 

self-realization. The most active and 

talented students, fellows of the 

Verhovna Rada of Ukraine, the national 

telecom operators, winner of national 

competitions are studying at the faculty.

Telecommunication network Subnet has 

been constructed which includes all 

essential components: terminal hardware,

xDSL, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Ethernet, MIMO), fiber 

optic and open-optical access equipment of 

transport networks-base technologies FR, 

ATM, DWDM. The Subnet combines 7

communication satellite and radio relay 

communication, present day transmission 

systems, wireless network access, 

information security, fiber-optic systems. 

The Department has computer rooms and 

multimedia lecture rooms equipped with 

wireless technologies. Distance education, 

lectures, practical classes and laboratory 

classes are held using Internet Protocol 

Television (IPTV) and distant access 

methods. 

In the process of studying the main

For nearly 40 years of existence, the Faculty created a strong scientific training base, 

providing high-quality training of qualified specialists, established scientific schools, which 

have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to solve complex scientific and industrial

businessmen and heads of state structures, known in all corners of Ukraine and the former

Mission of the Faculty is to prepare a multi-faceted 

professional, who can design, organize the production, 

maintenance and repair electronic equipment for various 

purposes, including any wireless devices, industrial 

electronics, biotechnology and medical devices, consumer 

electronics, telecommunications, and various types of 

computer equipment (industrial controllers, personal 

computers and specialized), banking, office and other 

electronic equipment; specialist who is relying on the 

knowledge of computer and microprocessor technology, 

universal and specialized software tools, automation, 

control and robotics, who can provide automation of 

enterprises in various fields of management (including 

banking) and solve the problems of the establishment,

Engineering is the leading graduating department for the major “Optoengineering”. The 

research covers the following areas: 

laser modulation spectroscopy. Fundamental and applied issues of methods of 

recording highly explosive gases in air and water; 

femtosecond lasers and their practical application in nanotechnologies and optical 

communication; 

semiconductor and CHIP lasers for nanotechnologies. Physical fundamentals of 

forming frequency characteristics; 

solid-state and chip lasers with semiconductor pumping. Open resonators of a 

complex form; 

light-emitting diode matrices. Physical fundamentals of application in lighting 

engineering; 

development of measuring systems and their metrological support;

amplification and transformation of optical signals in semiconductor media, quantum 

restriction devices and photon crystal-based systems; generation and control of ultra short
