Bold heading
On behalf of the Board, Staff and Members
of FTI, I’d like to welcome you tonight to the 16th WA Screen Awards.
The Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the
achievements of West Australian screen artists, whether emerging or
practicing professional, and share our successes with a wider public.
This year the WASA’s received a record number of entries, both in the
industry and early career sections, and the feedback from the judges:
• was that of being genuinely impressed by the range and quality
• of work submitted. The high calibre and record number of the
• entries is clear evidence of the depth of talent in this state
and I congratulate all entrants for their commitment and dedication in
getting their projects made.
I’d like to thank all the judges involved for their willingness to donate
their time and energy to the judging process and their enthusiasm for
the task. I’d also like to thank all our prize sponsors, ScreenWest, the
Lotteries Commission and the Australian Film Commission for their
support of the WA Screen Awards. Special thanks to the core WASA
team of Danielle Toolin, Liz Fay and Jon Cope for pulling it all together
this year, including the new Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival as a
forum to publicly showcase this year’s Early Career finalists.
