This isn't the first season Gator fans will see Assistant
Coach Dave Majeski on the sidelines for the Gators, but it
is his first full season as a Florida assistant. He served as
a volunteer assistant for the first half of last season and
as an interim assistant coach at the end of the season. He
works primarily with Florida's hitting and fielders.
Majeski's first interaction with the Florida softball team
was at the 2002 Celebrity Swing. Majeski, a fan-favorite
Gator baseball alumnus, took the first pitch he saw over
the scoreboard at the Florida Softball Stadium. Karen
Johns knew right then he could help her team. She asked
him if he would like to volunteer to help, and the rest, as
they say, is history.
Majeski is no stranger to Florida athletics. He was a fouryear
letterwinner for the Gator baseball team from 1989-
92 in the outfield. He was a member of the 1991 team that
won the Southeastern Conference Tournament and took
third in the College World Series. He was drafted in the
34th round by the Cleveland Indians after his junior year,
but chose to stay at UF for his senior season. In his senior
season, Majeski made both the All-SEC and SEC All-
Tournament teams. He was again drafted after completing
his eligibility by the Milwaukee Brewers. He finished
his career with a .322 batting average and still ranks in
the top 10 of 12 different career offensive categories.
Majeski graduated from the University of Florida in 1994
with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating from
The Majeski family: Dave, Meghan, Hope and Deanna
UF, Majeski was the head baseball coach and taught science
classes at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Fla.
There he led the baseball team to its best record in 12
years. In 1998, he accepted a job as the head baseball
coach and science and physical education teacher at
Santa Fe High School in Alachua, Fla. Majeski led the
baseball team to four consecutive district championships
and was named the Gainesville Sun's Coach of the Year in
1998. He also served as the director and head coach of the
North Central Florida Fall Showcase and All-Star teams
from 1998-2002. Currently, 26 of his former players are
playing college baseball.
Majeski is married to the former Deanna Cantliffe. They
have 4-year old identical twin girls, Meghan and Hope.
