La Tuna: Spain’s troubadours
The tradition of “ronda” (serenade) still lives
on today in a Tuna or “Estudiantina”: a
group of roving university students who
dress in medieval clothing and roam the
streets singing the same old songs from
centuries ago about traveling, historical
events and love using the traditional
“bandurria” (a small guitar), the “pandereta”
(tambourine) and other string instruments.
