making a big difference.
• The majority of WWN programming takes place in New Aiyansh (at St. Peter’s Hall), however we do deliver
courses in other Nisga’a locations, pending enrolment. The WWN offers courses on-site for Nisga’a
institutions, specifically Nisga’a language and culture.
• The WWN is a community driven, student focused post-secondary institution affiliated with UNBC, NWCC,
and Royal Roads University. The WWN is mandated by the Nisga’a Nation to provide quality education to
the Nisga’a people wherever they live or work. Courses have also been taught by audio to Prince Rupert,
Terrace, Greenville, Kincolith and Vancouver.
• The WWN offers a variety of adult programs in 3 areas of study-academic, vocational-technical, and
continuing community education. This includes the Bachelor of Arts: First Nations Studies-Nisga’a degree
program, the University-College Entrance Preparation Program, Business Administration courses part-time,
and courses such as Traffic Control/Flagging and First Aid.
• The Bachelor of Arts: First Nations Studies degree program is WWN’s main academic program. While
working toward their degree, students can also obtain academic certificates. These certificates include the
General First Nations Studies Certificate, the Nisga’a Studies Certificate, First Nations Language Certificate
and the Public Administration Certificate. The WWN also offers the Education Diploma in Nisga’a
Language and Culture that will provide students with the credentials to teach Nisga’a Language and Culture
within our schools.
• WWN’s claim to fame is Nisga’a Language and Culture. Our most popular courses continue to be Nisga’a
Language and Culture. Almost everyone who registers with WWN takes Nisga’a Language and Culture
courses. People are increasingly interested in the culture, and in learning to read, write, and speak Nisga’a.
• With the WWN, students can obtain post-secondary education without having to leave home. Students can
study and complete their post-secondary education with full support of their families and community. The
majority of WWN instructors are Nisga’a so they also provide enormous support to students to succeed in
their studies. Studying with WWN also means a greater instructor-student ratio which also leads to greater
success of students in their studies. Within the past couple of years, the university has been awarding a
number of WWN students with in-house scholarships because of their achievements in their studies. Students
succeed at WWN! We look forward to having some of you study at WWN, and look forward to helping you
succeed in your post-secondary studies.
