Snitz Club Board of Directors Meeting
September 20, 2006
Present: Bodnar, Gerharz, Harvot, Herman, Hetzel, Koplitz, Lloyd,
Madden, McDermott, K. Morrison, S. Morrison, Pasquini, Reschenberg,
Robinson, Schaefer, Sobojinski, Tyriver, White
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Gary Reschenberg.
Minutes: April & May minutes approved as sent out without objection.
Treasurer's Report: Treas. Larry Pasquini handed out a summary, and reported a total balance of
$14,855.11. This includes a $500 donation from the Bob Juedes family. Robinson moved, McDermott
seconded, to approve report. Motion carried.
Clinic: Koplitz reported that the numbers of participants was down from previous years. There seem to
be a lot of conflicts with OYB tournaments and other youth activities that weekend.
Field Reports: E.J.: Lloyd noted that the maintenance of the batting cages needs improvement,
specifically the weed control and upkeep of the nets (need to be taken down sooner for the winter).
Several directors commented on the need for padding on the center posts, as this is a safety issue with
ball ricocheting off them during batting practice… Ken Morrison read a letter from Cary Jolin indicating
his appreciation for the summer field worker… Gerharz reported many compliments on the new press
box… this summer the OASD plumber arranged for 12 replacement sprinklers to be ordered. Craig
Lieder forwarded the invoice ($305) to the club; they should be installed by 2007. The current Rain Bird
system is twenty years old. We need to look at replacing it in the near future.
Peppler: Gerharz said there is new gravel around the toss hitting area, and it will be covered with
artificial turf like the batting cages.
Red Arrow: Pasquini reported the City is funding improvements on the north and south diamonds. He
also shared a master plan for a youth baseball complex to be built south of town.
Lourdes: Herman said there are plans for a grass infield and irrigation system; also a utility vehicle.
Scoreboard: Ken Morrison shared information about the main vendors we are looking at: Nevco (IL)
and Varsity (KY). There are a numbers of options, with costs ranging near $15,000 with $3-5000 for
installation. We are still looking for a major sponsor or sponsors for this project. A committee of Jim
White and the high school coaches will investigate further.
Gator: Robinson moved, White seconded, to authorize $4500 for the purchase of a new Gator. Motion
carried. Sam Demmin will arrange the purchase and delivery.
2007 Officers: Reschenberg announced that he will be stepping down as president. The membership
committee will present the board with a slate of officers to be voted on at the November meeting. The
posts to be voted on are: President (one-year term), Executive Vice-President (two-year term) and
Secretary (two-year term).
Doc Herman Memorial: Jason Herman had $50 for the Snitz Club and $225 for Legion baseball from
Doc’s memorial. Ken will take the old Snitz Club records that Doc had at home.
Mission: White commented on the mission of the club -- to raise funds to promote baseball in Oshkosh.
Our two primary duties as directors are to help with the annual fish fry and to work proportionate time in
the concession stand throughout the year. We are still having difficulties getting all directors to fulfill
concession duties. Debate was renewed over scheduling systems, several of which have be tried over the
years with similar results. Ken Morrison said that the issue is more about people than systems of
scheduling. He also reminded everyone about the many positive accomplishments of the club in recent
years.
