Editor’s Note:
Howdy fellow Striders,
It appears that Spring may finally be upon us, and with it comes
Racing Season! Many of you have already run a race, or many, in
one of the Grand Prix races for the team. Thanks for that! It looks
like it is going to be another great racing year for the Striders.
I must also wish all of you who are running the Boston Marathon
this year, the best of luck, and a heck-of-a-fun race. I’m already
having flashbacks to last year, when I was on my taper, prepared for
my first ever Boston. Such great memories, and while I may run
another someday, my first will always be my first. So for those of
you who are running in your first... enjoy it! For me, it wasn’t a race
for time; it was the making of a dream. If I run another one, I’ll
have no choice but compare it to my first one, but for the first, it
was all about the experience. And while I may not have fulfilled my
first goal, I ended up finishing right in front of Bill Rodgers, and he’s
even in my finish line photo! Sometimes missed goals can be a
blessing in disguise!
A good friend of mine told me: “I think you learn and grow with
each experience.” This is so true, especially for the occasional
negative experience. Remember that if things don’t go exactly as
planned.
In other news... I was very pleased to see so many people in this
year’s C25K program! I think it is one of the best programs in
running, and we are lucky to have great people helping out, and
participating. Create your goals write them down, and post them
where you will see them each and every day. Group up, help each
other, and you will succeed.
I hope you enjoy this issue. The article “What is Church” is
especially enlightening. (It has been updated for 2010.)
Until next time.... Richie Blake.
