Upon receiving the nomination from a partner university, nominees will be invited<br />

to download and complete our exchange application forms. Applicants are<br />

required to mail the original application forms and supporting documents to the<br />

Office <strong>of</strong> International Affairs (ATTN: Ms. Makiko Fujiwara. 193-2 Okutsubakidai,<br />

Yuwa-Tsubakigawa, Akita-city, Akita 010-1211 Japan). No online application is<br />

available.<br />

1) Official academic transcripts from all colleges attended<br />

2) One Letter <strong>of</strong> Recommendation<br />

3) Personal statement<br />

4) Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> English competency (if applicable)<br />

Students whose first language is NOT English are expected to achieve a<br />

standard <strong>of</strong> TOEFL score 500 (PBT) or its equivalent, or IELTS score <strong>of</strong> 5.0 or<br />

Fall Semester 2009: April 1<br />

1. Submit the application for the Certificate <strong>of</strong> Eligibility (COE) to Division <strong>of</strong><br />

International Affairs along with the admission application documents.<br />

[ Required Supporting Documents:]<br />

1) Application<br />

2) Financial statement<br />

3) Copy <strong>of</strong> passport<br />

4) Three ID photos<br />

2. The Division <strong>of</strong> International Affairs will submit the application for the COE to<br />

the immigration <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

3. The immigration <strong>of</strong>fice will issue the COE in approximately six weeks and<br />

send it to the Division <strong>of</strong> International Affairs.<br />

4. The Division <strong>of</strong> International Affairs will send the COE to the student or host<br />

institution.<br />

5. The student will apply for visa. The student needs to submit the COE with<br />

supporting documents to the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate.<br />

International students may engage in part time work after obtaining a work permit<br />

from the immigration <strong>of</strong>fice. Instructions on applying for a work permit will be<br />

provided by the Division <strong>of</strong> International Affairs.<br />
