High Performance <strong>Air</strong> Conditioning<br />

<strong>Matrix</strong> R<br />

<strong>Matrix</strong> R is the ductable chiller series from Emerson Network Power, branded Liebert HIROSS, which covers a cooling capacity<br />

range between <strong>40</strong> and <strong>350kW</strong>. In all applications where it is necessary to duct the suction and/or discharge airflow (e.g. a chiller<br />

installed in plant room, technical room or garage…) Emerson Network Power proposes a solution unique in the market:<br />

Liebert HIROSS ductable chiller with radial fan.<br />

Radial Fan<br />

Building on a long tradition in the use of radial fans in high<br />

performance air conditioning, Emerson Network Power<br />

with its brand Liebert HIROSS once again distinguishes itself<br />

with a technologically advanced solution, which provides<br />

many benefits compared to traditional ducted chillers.<br />

Also, thanks to radial backward blade fans, the <strong>Matrix</strong> R<br />

series shows efficiency values higher than belt-driven fan<br />

chillers, not only in nominal conditions but, above all, at low<br />

outdoor air temperatures.<br />

In fact, thanks to its standard stepless fan speed control,<br />

when the outdoor air temperature decreases, <strong>Matrix</strong> R automatically<br />

reduces the speed of its fans, thus increasing its<br />

efficiency. Moving, for instance, from 35°C outdoor air temperature<br />

to 18°C, <strong>Matrix</strong> R efficiency improves by 15%:<br />

considering that a chiller works at lower outdoor temperatures<br />

than the nominal for the greater part of the year, this<br />

yields a great energy saving (for a 100kW chiller with<br />

freecooling coil installed in Milan the energy saving can<br />

reach 49.000 kWh per year).<br />

Maybe, what is even more important is that radial fans can<br />

provide the <strong>Matrix</strong> R with high degree of flexibility: using<br />

the same type of fan, each model can operate with an ESP<br />

value between 50 and 450-500 Pa without changing any<br />

component, but by simply changing a parameter in the control!<br />

In the case of ducts or filters with higher pressure drops<br />

than originally designed, a fine adjustment can easily be<br />

made on site.<br />

Additionally, thanks again to the technical features of the<br />

fans, the <strong>Matrix</strong> R air discharge can be repositioned, if<br />

required, from the top, to the condenser coil side or to the<br />

side opposite the coil, by simply changing two panels, without<br />

any factory pre-arrangement: air discharge where it is<br />

easier!<br />

Finally, in terms of flexibility, being equipped with standard<br />

stepless self-regulating fan speed control, <strong>Matrix</strong> R fans are<br />

always running at the lowest speed necessary to maintain the<br />

design condensing temperature and ESP, in every condition.<br />

This self-regulating behaviour also permits the reduction of<br />

sound emissions in non-standard conditions; moreover<br />

they are already particularly low in nominal conditions,<br />

thanks to the generously sized condenser coil, which consequently<br />

permits reduced airflows, and to the scroll compressors<br />

utilised across the range.<br />

Same benefits in terms of flexibility can be obtained using<br />

the same radial fan equipped with Electronically<br />

Commutated motor (EC radial fan): <strong>Matrix</strong> R is now further<br />

8% more efficient and 3dB(A) more silent!<br />

30 years ago, Liebert HIROSS strongly believes in the energy<br />

and cost saving this chiller version provides, even in its ducted<br />

configuration. Year-round operation can yield energy savings<br />
