copy of the official case file of the Cosford Incident in 1993.
A number of Cosford related documents were placed on the Ministry of Defence
website but later withdrawn for copyright reasons, as you say. The documents are
too large for me to e-mail to you but I can send you a copy on disk or paper. In
order to save on paper and postage costs, our preferred option would be to provide
you with the information on disk, however, the choice is yours. Please let me know
which you would prefer.
I should make it clear that whilst these documents constitute the bulk of the MoD file
on the subject, the full file is currently being prepared for transfer to The National
Archives as part of a major programme to transfer some 160 UFO files covering the
late 1970s to 2007. It is expected the file will be available to the public later this
year.
Therefore, as provided by exemption s.22 (Information intended for future
publication) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the MoD is not obliged to
comply with this part of your request.
This is not the end of the matter, of course; section 22 is a qualified exemption,
meaning that the MOD must assess the balance of public interest in release of the
information.
Whilst there is undoubtedly public interest in this file being released to the public as

Turning to the incident over the Channel Islands, the limited documentation we hold on
the matter can be viewed on the MoD website www.mod.uk by searching in our
Disclosure Log under the phrase Channel Islands.
I am not aware of the MoD holding any information relating to the incidents in the USA
that you mention. However, since a number of them are now quite old, you might wish to
look at the files in The National Archives. As explained above, our files for the year 1997
are due for transfer to The National Archives later this year. If we hold any documentation
regarding the incident in March 1997 it will be held on these files, although I very much
doubt we would hold such information. Again, exemption s.22 applies. We hold no-
information on an incident in Texas in 2008.

The information regarding the RAF Cosford, RAF Shawbury and Cornwall incidents is
contained in a MoD file covering the sightings in late March 1993. This file was
previously available on the MoD website but was removed for copyright reasons (it is

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 30th December 2008 asking
for a copy of documents on the Rendlesham Incident that had previously been
available on the MoD website. Additionally, following my e-mail of 16 January 2009
asking for clarification of your request, you asked for copies of any reports, memos
or similar relating to UFO sightings over Kendal on 20th June 2008 and Scarborough
on 11th, 12th and 14 July 2008. I am waiting to retrieve the relevant files from archive
and shall write to you separately on this point.
In accordance with your e-mail of 5 January 2009 I enclose a paper copy of the
Rendlesham File which had previously been on our website. Some personal
information such as names, addresses and telephone numbers has been withheld
under exemption sAO (Personal Information) of the Freedom of Information Act
2000. As this exemption is an absolute exemption an assessment of the public
interest for and against disclosure is not required under the terms of the Act.
You may wish to note that the file is a compilation file comprised of documents that
were removed from their original file and placed on this file. This would account for
the non sequential enclosure numbering. Although the file cover states the file was
opened on 25 October 1982, it is clear that this was not the case. Sec(AS) was not in
being at this time, only being formed in early 1985 and therefore no file with a
reference number commencing with D/Sec(AS) could have been in existence in 1982.
No record of when the file was created can be found.
The original the enclosed file is one of 160 due for transfer to The National Archives
as part of an ongoing three year programme that was featured quite heavily in the
UK media over 2008, to make our UFO files from 1979 to 2007 available to the
