4. Das Erinnerungs-Motiv (2:36, repeat 6:31)<br />

Bald schwindet um die Lust der Erinnerung in Wehmut. (No. 2 im Klavier, No. 4 im<br />

Streichorchester in Moll.)<br />

Der Tanz geht weiter und wird immer wilder. Bis zum Sonnenaufgang soll er wahren,<br />

dann muß der Tod seine Toten durch sechs Tamtamschläge ins Grab zurückrufen. Doch<br />

der wilde Tanz hat von Tod berückt, [bevor] er sein Eigenthum zurückgefordert hat, geht<br />

die Sonne auf:<br />

The dance continues, ever more wild. It will last until sunrise, when Death has to call his dead<br />
