VOLLEYBALL
Georgian Court, the defending
CACC champions, returns with
four All-CACC performers, including
First-Team pick Stephanie Rivera. The
junior middle hitter will be joined by
three seniors, all Second-Team selections:
libero Ana Cruz, setter Lisamary
Figueroa, and outside hitter Janelle
Murdock. The Lions are seeking their
fourth consecutive CACC Championship
after upending Philadelphia University,
3–0, in last season’s title game. GCU
went on to claim the CACC’s first-ever
NCAA Tournament victory with a 3–0
triumph over Merrimack College at the
East Regional. The Lions have won 59
straight matches against CACC foes
since October 7, 2006.
GCU Tennis, after going 6–13
(4–3 CACC) in 2008, finished in
fourth place and earned the program’s
fourth consecutive CACC Tournament
appearance. Juniors Natalie Grieci and
Brittany Aimone now headline a roster
comprised completely of former Shore
Conference players. Natalie led the
Lions last season with a 9–8 record in
singles competition, while also teaming
with this year’s lone senior, Caitlyn
TRACK & FIELD
Georgian Court Track and Field
enjoyed an outstanding inaugural
season that included a double victory
for junior Emilia Lopez in the mile
and 3,000 meter and a victory for
sophomore Krystal Belcher in the
800 meter at the Albright Invitational,
and the 4x100 relay team—first-year
students Alyssa Puryear, Hannah
Maak, Wilsar Johnson, and Shaleah
Alston—winning at the West Chester
Invitational and finishing second at
the Monmouth Invitational. Looking
ahead to 2010, GCU welcomes a very
talented group of 15 student-athletes
that includes two state champions.
The program has also been accepted to
the College Track Conference (CTC),
which will allow Georgian Court to
compete for a conference championship.
The CTC boasts schools from Divisions
I, II, and III institutions. The Lions
will compete in their first track and
field conference championship on
February 12, 2010, at the CTC Indoor
Championships at Wesleyan University
in Middletown, Connecticut.
Lawrence, for a doubles victory in the
CACC Team Championships. Brittany
looks to rebound from an injury-riddled
2008 campaign during which she posted
a 7–7 singles record, including a firstround
victory in last year’s Wilson/ITA
Regional Championships. Newcomers
in 2009 include sophomores Sarah
Lockenmeyer and Alexus McClintic
and first-year student Victoria Gaffney.
SOCCER
Goalkeeper Lindsay Hammond led the
CACC last season with a 1.01 goalsagainst-average.
Sophomore Kelly Lyons, 2008 CACC
Rookie of the Year, returns for
GCU in 2009 after leading the conference
in goals (22) and points (48) as a
first-year student. She was named to the
Daktronics All-East Region First Team
while also being named a Daktronics
Honorable Mention All-American.
Senior goalie Lindsay Hammond, the
2008 CACC Tournament MVP, is
back after recording three shutouts in
last season’s tournament. She was also
an All-CACC Second Team pick. The
Lions earned a hard-fought 1–0 victory
over Philadelphia in last season’s CACC
Tournament Championship. The Lions
went 12–7–5 overall and made the program’s
first-ever appearance in the NCAA
Division II East Regional Tournament.
