The Herolds Bay Beach Festival is
back with a ‘BANG’ on Saturday, 17
December 2011, this time presented
by 8ta.
The 8ta ‘It’s Playtime this Summer’
tour will be stopping over at the
festival. The tour stopover is one of
eight events along the Cape coastline
presented between Hermanus
and East London and will include
great fun activities for the whole
family. Thousands of Rands of
prizes will be up for grabs.
Take part in the ‘Beach Olympics’ or
check out the hot 8ta Dancers while
being entertained by celebrity MC,
Jacques Terre’Blanche of Idols
fame.
Mom and Dad, don’t forget to enter
your kids for ‘Mej Seesterretjie and
Mnr Spiertjies’ on the day of the
event.
After the 8ta activities the ever popular
Herolds Bay Miss Bikini will be
presented on the beach. This event
has been the highlight of the festivals
for many years and won’t disappoint.

The Garden Route Botanical Garden in
George is the ideal place to spend an
afternoon surrounded by beautiful fauna and
flora. Situated at the top end of Caledon
Street, this lovely indigenous garden is
perfect for strolling, bird watching, picnicking
and photography. Centred around the town’s
first dam, the Garden has a Medicinal Mound
at its centre. It showcases indigenous plants
with reputed healing properties.
Also located on the site is the Moriarty
Environmental Centre which houses the
Southern Cape Herbarium, a tea garden, a
comprehensive Botanical Library and the
WESSA Educational Office. Next to the
Centre is an indigenous nursery which sells
plants to the public. If you haven’t prepared a
picnic basket, or want some delicious

BOTANICAL GARDEN
Maria’s. It is open on weekdays from 09:30 to
16:30 and Saturdays from 09:30 to 14:00.
The entrance to the tea garden uses the
same road as the Moriarty Environmental
Centre. The Garden is open daily from 07:00
to 19:00 and entry is free. The nursery and
offices are open Mondays to Fridays from
08:00 to 17:00. Public bathroooms are
available and the Garden is wheelchairfriendly.

Set in a magnificent park - the Outeniqua Farmers’
Market is located opposite the Garden
Route Mall on the N2 (take the Sasol Garage
turn-off in Kraaibosch). Market lovers can shop
at 80 food and craft stalls offering produce and
goods created by local farmers and skilled craft
people. From berries to bread and fish to flowers.

ORGANIC
TIMBERLAKE VILLAGE
Timberlake is a market style village located on
the N2 halfway between Wilderness and
Sedgefield. Foodies will love the hearty country
style food which supports slow food principles.
The village features an organic garden, coffee
shops, food shops, nursery, pub and fairy
garden. There are extensive kids facilities - a
race track, jungle gym, trampoline and friendly
goats. The Timberlake Express barrel train
operates from Tuesdays to Sundays and
departs the station next to the Wild Woods
Adventure Castle at the times indicated. Kids
love to ride the train through the timberlake
