GoBook TM VR-2 Model IX605 EOL Notification
Background:
This Product Bulletin is issued to officially announce the End of Life of the GoBook TM
VR-2 notebook computer from General Dynamics Itronix. The GoBook TM VR-2 was
introduced in August 2007 as the first “vehicle rugged” notebook computer, paving the
way for this now industry recognized product category. Since then the VR-2 has been
one of our fastest growing products and the winner of several prestigious awards.
Most recently picking up GCN’s Reviewer’s Choice award (December, 2008) and the
Cygnus Law Enforcement Group 2008 Innovation Award, solidifying it as the leader in
the vehicle rugged category.
The GoBook TM VR-2 has been replaced by the new GD6000 notebook computer which
was introduced earlier this month. The GD6000 carries forward all of the vehicle
rugged capabilities of the VR-2 and provides a significant improvement in overall
system performance in the same notebook computer form factor as the VR-2.
All existing GoBook TM VR-2 inventory has been purchased and no additional newly
manufactured units are available for sale. However, accessories for the GoBook TM VR-2
are still available. Please contact General Dynamics Itronix for details on available VR-2
accessories and the new GD6000.
Detail, Timing, Implementation and Compatibility Issues:
Today, with this notice, General Dynamics Itronix is initiating the End of Life Process on
the GoBook TM VR-2 Model IX605. Customers wishing to purchase GoBook TM VR-2s
should be introduced to the new GD6000 which is available for shipments to customers
starting this month, December 2008. Currently, the Microsoft Windows XP and Vista
operating systems and many accessories are shared between the GoBook TM VR-2 and
the GD6000. However, the memory and media bay options are different between the
GD6000 and the VR-2.
Impact to Installed Base:
General Dynamics Itronix does not anticipate any impact to its customers as a result of
the GoBook TM VR-2 being discontinued. Service and support of the GoBook TM VR-2 will
continue unabated for the remaining service life of the product. Existing service and
support agreements between General Dynamics Itronix and its customers will remain in
full force and effect, and the agreements may be renewed for service contracts that
terminate as late as December 15, 2013. After December 15, 2013, “best effort” support
will be available.
