<strong>of</strong> vertebral means for cod from <strong>the</strong> same areas <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Northwest <strong>Atlantic</strong> show relatively small variations <strong>in</strong><br />
vertebral numbers from Schmidt's (1930) samples <strong>of</strong><br />
1923-29, Thompson's (1943) samples <strong>of</strong> 1931-35 and<br />
Hansen's (1949) samples <strong>of</strong> 1924-37 to those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
1947-60 and 1961-71 periods presented <strong>in</strong> this paper.<br />
Portions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> data used <strong>in</strong> this paper were referred to<br />
previously <strong>in</strong> papers by Templeman (1953, 1962b,<br />
1979), Flem<strong>in</strong>g (1958, 1960), P<strong>in</strong>horn (1970) and Lear<br />
et al. (MS 1979).
