NORTHSIDE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Northside Regionals will be held at Charnwood on 2nd & 3 rd of March at the Charnwood Oval. GLAC encourages
all athletes to participate in this exciting event. It is an opportunity to showcase the wonderful club spirit of Ginninderra
Little Athletics Club and as the season draws to a close, it will be a great chance for all athletes to ‘team’ together. It is
the first time the regionals will be hosted by Ginninderra Little Athletics Club so we anticipate a successful and well
attended event. Entry is free.
TRIPLE JUMP RUNWAY AND PIT
GLAC was successful in winning a 2013 Sport and Recreation Grant from the ACT Government. This grant will be
invested in completing the payment of the triple jump runway and pit at Charnwood Oval. The Tigers have been
investing in local Athletics for the last 36 years in Belconnen. In the past three years, GLAC and its sponsors have
invested in new Shot Put, Discus, High Jump and Timing Gate facilities. The completion of the jump runway and pit
will deliver a dedicated senior’s facility for Triple Jump and Long Jump with over 35m of synthetic surface for even
the most experienced of jumpers. With the increased level of investment, GLAC has been identified by the State
Association (LAACT) to run the Northside Regional Championships at Charnwood Oval in March. The Tigers are the
first ACT club to host the annual championships since its inception in 2002.
MARTY DENT: THE DISTANCE RUNNER
Martin (Marty) Dent is Australia’s best marathon runner and has been a regular supporter of Ginninderra Little
Athletics Club, taking a Master Class alongside Lauren Boden at the 2011 Ginninderra Carnival. Marty will be on
track at Charnwood Oval on Saturday 23 rd February to run the Tigers through their paces in a Master Class before the
start of the program. After the Master Class, Marty will hang with the U14-U17 Athletes as they do their 1500m
events. A great opportunity for the rising track stars of Ginninderra to speak with a star of Australian Athletics. Don’t
miss out on this wonderful opportunity to hear and experience the distance tales of Martin Dent.
CENTENARY CLUB OF THE MONTH
Throughout 2013 a local sporting team, club or organisation will be awarded the honour of ‘Centenary Club of the
Month’. This is open to each and every community sporting entity in the nation’s capital, no matter how big or small,
or what code, it’s all about getting involved and being part of the action. ‘Centenary Club of the Month’ will be
awarded to the sporting team, club or organisation who celebrates the Centenary of Canberra throughout their own
networks.
The Ginninderra Tigers raced their hearts out for Canberra's Centenary with their ‘Sportenary 100m Gift Race’.
Over 100 Little Athletes raced 100m in 12 seconds. Sporting their yellow and black stripes, the U6s were the big
winners taking out the handicap race over their much older rivals. Ginninderra continue to enjoy 2013 with their
biggest participation numbers in 20 years, growing by an astonishing 200 Athletes over last season. Ginninderra
became first Little Athletics Club in the ACT with members as young as 4 years old by introducing a Tiny Tigers
program in 2013. The ‘Sportenary Gift’ follows the tiger’s effort of hosting 2013 first interclub competition and
holding a traditional Highland Games with all the Scottish fanfare. There is still so much in store at Charnwood for
Canberra’s Centenary celebrations. Keep track of the tigers and their rise in 2013.

WEEKLY COMPETITION PROGRAM
Warm up commences at 8.45am each Saturday morning of competition and important weekly announcements are
made at this time also. We like to start the competition at 9am sharp but we rely on parents to help with set up.
Remember ‘more hands make light work’ and we would appreciate any assistance at 8am each Saturday. There is
a lot of equipment to attend to each week and the efficiency of this process is dependent on the number of people willing
to help. If you can help, see Brian Sinclair or Steve Dodt on arrival.
NO SMOKING
PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE in the areas around the bbq, canteen or where athletes are competing. For those of us
who do not smoke, it is NOT pleasant. Should you need to smoke, please move well away from the oval to do so.
UNIFORMS
We have received a new supply of singlets. Please see Vicki in the canteen if you would like to purchase a singlet.
If you have any ‘pre-loved’ t-shirts or spikes please feel free to donate them to our ‘collection’. All funds go to
purchasing further supplies of equipment for the club.
SUNSCREEN
Whilst the club supplies some sunscreen, please DO NOT remove it from the canteen area. This causes a great deal of
wasted time looking for it and it is unfair to those requiring sunscreen for their children. We are happy to make it
available for all club members to use but please do not take it with you or take it home.
Thank you to Luke Murray from Macquarie Discount Chemist for the new supply of sunscreen.

NEWS FLASH
Our very own ‘actor extraordinaire’ Brian Daly is starring in “WEST SIDE STORY”. West Side Story is a local
production at ‘The Q’ Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre showing from 8 th to 24 th February 2013. Local productions
showcase some outstanding talent from our region and having seen a number of local shows, I (Vicki) recommend
anyone who enjoys theatre to get along and support the show. There are evening and matinee performances. Look out
for Brian, he plays the role of a “grumpy nasty copper”. (His words!)
LOST PROPERTY
There is a huge amount of lost property. Please have a look at the pile and take home what is yours. Lost property
that is not collected will be donated to charity.
DUMP AND RUN
GLAC is NOT a baby-sitting service. Please do not dump and run. Your children are YOUR responsibility. We are
aware (and watching) the regular ‘dumpers’ so please be mindful of your responsibilities. If you have to leave the
grounds during the course of the morning, please let someone in your age group know so that they can be responsible for
your child.
CODE OF BEHAVIOUR
“FAMILY FUN & FITNESS” As a club we pride ourselves in being free of any unacceptable and inappropriate
behaviour from athletes and parents. Please refer to the booklet or website for the Code of Behaviour Policy. The code
outlines the behaviour expected from athletes and parents when participating at GLAC. We want our club to remain fun
safe and happy for all who attend.
GLAC INFORMATION BOOKLET
Please read the GLAC information book supplied at registration. The booklet has valuable and important information
that outlines the rules and recording of events. Please ask our coaches should you wish for clarification of the
information. Should any athlete ‘break a record’ the result requires verification by a committee member.
