Industrial Inspection 

GL undertakes inspections at vendor facilities, checking 

that their products are of suitable quality in order to detect 

failures and defects as early as possible in the manufacturing 

process. We monitor compliance with standards, 

procedures and specifications. On a construction site, we 

survey the assembly and installation of components and 

the commissioning of industrial assets. We are also skilled 

in tubular management, such as in the inspection of 

downhole equipment and in pipe mill and rig surveillance. 

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) 

GL has over 100 trained professionals, providing basic 

and advanced NDT services. NDT is a standalone service 

and forms part of GL’s integrated Asset Management 

approach. NDT data can easily be integrated with GL 

software such as the GALIOM tool, which processes this 

data to highlight operational integrity issues. Through a 

risk-based inspection programme, we can increase 

operational efficiency. 

Quality engineering 

GL offers specialised services to its clients – conducting 

quality audits, creating Quality Assurance / Quality Control 

plans, and undertaking vendor assessments. 

Expediting 

GL tracks and monitors manufacturing progress and feeds 

back this information into the project plan so that the 

project manager is informed of any possible delays and can 

take corrective action.

Our intelligence has been applied to diverse projects and 

many industry sectors such as oil and gas, power generation, 

water utilities, mines and renewable energy. We are 

also experienced in various process and transportation 

industries. 

Oil and gas: BP Terminals and Refineries, Java 

Advanced NDT and inspection of offshore and onshore 

in-service pipelines, risers, pressure vessels and 

heat exchangers, using IRIS (internal rotary inspection 

system), thermography and guided wave long-range 

ultrasonics. Risk-based inspection of 230 offshore 

platforms for BP West Java. 

Power generation: Babcock Power Group, globally 

Since 1989, GL has provided global QA/QC, third-party 

inspection and expediting services to the Babcock 

Power Group, covering over 40 power plants, including 

project and field expediting. 

Water: Severn Trent Pipeline Laying, UK 

Inspection and auditing services for Polyethylene (PE) 

pipeline installation for Severn Trent. On-site audit and 

assessment of site practices and operator competency. 

Mining: Snap Lake diamond project, Canada 

Third-party inspection and expediting services for 

De Beers at Canada’s first completely underground 

diamond mine and De Beers’ first mine outside Africa. 

Wind energy: Stuedenitz Wind Farm, Germany 

(24 x 1.5 MW) 

Inspection of wind turbines on behalf of Global Wind 

Power A/S before end of warranty. Rotor blade 

inspection by rope access technique (IRATA) including 

measurement of lightning protection system. Visual 

turbine inspection combined with drive train vibration 

measurements and gearbox video endoscopy.
