Honored Guests,
Welcome to what we know will be an enjoyable evening of song, dance, and performance
dedicated to the memory of Eric Grammas, a young man who in his 24 years overcame
so many obstacles placed in front of him by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Through
hard work, perseverance, determination, and an unforgettable smile, Eric epitomized
the human spirit, that something special in all of us that says, “Why can’t I?”.
With these words and the help of so many caring people, Eric was able to develop
The Music Man 1993
and share his special talents. Eric sang in various choral groups, wrote short stories and plays,
appeared in 37 productions, and directed several shows including Geneseo Community Players
2005 production of Brighton Beach Memoirs.
Through the efforts and overwhelming support of the Geneseo Community Players, we have
established an endowed scholarship in Eric’s memory at his alma mater, SUNY Geneseo. This
scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in the performing arts program who exhibits the
same qualities we all saw in Eric—a person who has faced and overcome adversity and hardship
through a combination of hard work, perseverance, and determination in pursuit of their dream.
Thanks to all of the friends of Eric who have spent countless hours in organizing this special
evening. To all of the performers, directors, writers, choreographers, sound and lighting technicians,
rehearsal musicians, and backstage hands—words cannot adequately express our gratitude. Thanks
to the Geneseo Community Players for all of the love and support extended to Eric over the years. It
seems only fitting that you were there for Eric in his first show and now you are here for Eric in his last.
On behalf of Eric and his entire family, please accept this performance of some of Eric’s
favorite moments from some of his favorite shows, as a personal thank you, from us, to each and
every one of you, not only for your generous donations but for all of the support, acceptance,
and encouragement Eric received through the years. Because of you, he was given the
opportunity to try. Because of you, he was given the opportunity to accomplish.
Because of you, he was given the opportunity to succeed.
Thanks again, not only for all of your love and support throughout the years, but for
being here tonight to truly celebrate Eric’s life and for making this dream become a
reality.
“You raise me up… to more than I can be.”
Teonna Janczak
Proudly known as Eric’s Mom
