FOR THREE WEEKS THIS SUMMER,
Davena Rankin, Commercial
Manager for Research & Innovation
Services at GCU, was caught up in
an intensive campaign standing as the
Conservative candidate in the Glasgow
East by-election. With daily TV and
radio interviews, she spoke about local
issues eloquently, and was the only
candidate fighting fair, with plenty of mud
slinging among competitors. Coming in a
respectable third, with 6% of the votes, the
Conservative campaign saw the Lib-dems
fall into the realm of lost deposits.
Davena, who grew up in Glasgow, is
very pleased with the campaign. “It gave
the Glasgow East constituents the opportunity
to air their problems.” On her political
aspirations, she said: “My goal is to be
an MSP by 2011. Standing up for people is
something I’m passionate about.”
Davena is an active member of UNISON,
as Secretary of the GCU Branch. She also
sits on three National Committees and
chairs the Scottish Women’s Committee.
and accept this award.”
Sean, Chief Executive of Powerleague Group, market-leader in
